About the roleWe are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electronic Technician to join the Central Engineering team at Liberty Primary Steel in Whyalla. In this critical role, you will be responsible for the repair, maintenance, calibration, and troubleshooting of electronic and instrumentation systems across the Steelworks. Your work will directly support the reliability, safety, and performance of measurement and control systems that are vital to steelmaking operations.Reporting to the Electrical Services Superintendent, you will be hands-on with PLCs, HMIs, sensors, transmitters, and automated systemsutilising advanced diagnostic tools and calibration techniques to ensure electronic equipment is operating at optimal efficiency. You will also play a key role in supporting technical teams during commissioning, upgrades, and ongoing process improvements.This is a technically diverse and safety-critical role, ideal for someone with a strong foundation in electronics and industrial instrumentation who thrives in a fast-paced industrial environment and is committed to high standards of quality and safety.Key ResponsibilitiesMaintain and repair electronic and instrumentation equipment including drives, sensors, transmitters, and automated systemsDiagnose and troubleshoot faults in control systems, PLCs, and communication interfaces using diagnostic software and electronic testing toolsPerform routine and precision calibration of gas monitors, multimeters, and other instrumentation to industry and manufacturer standardsCollaborate with engineering and maintenance teams on system upgrades, commissioning, and reliability improvement initiativesMonitor and promote safety behaviour across site operations, actively contributing to safety meetings, near miss reporting, and hazard reductionEnsure availability and accuracy of critical electronic spare partsSupport coordination of electronic repairables through liaison with Maintenance Systems Officer and relevant supervisorsAbout YouTrade qualified with a Certificate III in Electronics and Communications (UEE30920) or A Class Electrical Licence with relevant industry experienceProficient in troubleshooting and repairing industrial electronics, with a solid understanding of circuits including switch-mode power supplies, TTL/CMOS logic gates, microprocessors, SCR and IGBT power devicesHands-on experience using multimeters, oscilloscopes, signature analysers, function generators, and portable calibratorsFamiliar with CMMS and ERP platforms such as SAP, Maximo, Dynamics 365, or EPIXCommitted to safety-first practices and experienced working in industrial or manufacturing settingsStrong communicator with the ability to work across departments and maintain productive relationships with operations, engineering, and technical staffKey BenefitsBelow are some of our key central benefits that are available to all employees.
