We are a not-for-profit, incorporated community organisation, governed by an all-Aboriginalboard.THE OPPORTUNITYThe Chief Operating Officer (COO) is a key executive leader responsible for translating AbSecs strategic direction into operational success. The COO ensures the organisations infrastructure, systems, and people are aligned and optimised to deliver on AbSecs mission and objectives. The role is also responsible for driving alignment across all project activities to organisational strategy, overseeing project leads and fostering collaboration across teams.The COO works closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and Board to ensure a high-performing, values-led organisation that is resilient, culturally strong, and delivers positive outcomes for Aboriginal children, families, and communities.Key responsibilities include:Strategic Leadership & Support - Partner with the CEO to drive the delivery of AbSecs strategic and operational plans, while contributing to strategy development, monitoring, and evaluation.Project & Team Oversight - Provide leadership and day-to-day management of the project team, ensuring projects are aligned with organisational goals and delivered effectively through cross-team coordination.Operational Excellence - Lead integrated planning across functions, ensuring operational policies, systems, and processes are in place to support compliance, service delivery, and continuous improvement.Business Development & Sector Engagement - Identify strategic business opportunities and represent sector-wide interests by raising key challenges and opportunities to the CEO.Organisational Capability & Culture - Champion initiatives that build organisational capability, improve internal effectiveness, and foster a values-led, collaborative culture.What youll bringDemonstrated understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal self-determination and the rights of Aboriginal children, families, and communities.Executive-level leadership experience managing diverse operational and/or project delivery functions.Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams to deliver organisational objectives.Demonstrated ability to lead organisational transformation and manage change collaboratively.High-level interpersonal, negotiation, and relationship management skills.Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and strategic planning capability.Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.Why AbSec?When you join AbSec, you become part of a passionate team advocating for a better future for our communities.
