The role involves performing cytogenetic, molecular cytogenetic, and molecular genetic investigations using techniques such as tissue culture, chromosome preparation, banding, karyotyping, FISH, QF-PCR, chromosome microarray, and other molecular diagnostic methods. The material tested may be human cells or DNA from blood, bone marrow, pregnancy tissue, solid tumours, other tissues, or archival tissue. Additional techniques include microscopy, digital image capture, and computer-assisted analysis, with potential involvement in tests like Fragile X in the future.
