The successful applicants will gain valuable experience in our hospital in the beautiful Northern NSW LHD / Richmond Network, working under the guidance of highly experienced senior clinicians as part of the Australasian College of Emergency Medicines (ACEM) training program.The Lismore Base Hospital (LBH) Emergency Department (ED) sees over 41,000 adult and paediatric presentations per year and is a regional trauma centre. The department includes modern facilities such as a 4 bed resuscitation and procedure bay, acute zone, an ED short stay unit (EDSSU), fast tract and medical imaging services. LBH ED also supports Richmond Network hospitals including Ballina District Hospital and Casino Memorial District Hospital, and Multipurpose Centres located at Kyogle, Nimbin, Urbenville and Bonalbo.Accreditation: Lismore Base Hospital (Richmond Network) is accredited for 36 months of Trainee Stage 1-3 time, 6 months Trainee Stage 4 (Lismore ED), and 6 months Trainee Stage 4 (non-ED Retrieval) or 3 months Trainee Stage 4 non-ED Medical Education. Our department offers opportunities to rotate to ACEM accredited terms in Anaesthetics, ICU, Medical Education, Ultrasound and Retrieval.Education: We offer weekly paid protected education sessions including simulation, clinical skills, case reviews, radiology, and paediatrics. Additional structured programs are offered to trainees preparing for ACEM primary and fellowship exams. LBH also supports trainees with funding external education activities including Alfred Health Emergency Procedures Course and ACEM Diploma of Pre Hospital and Retrieval Medicine.Where you''ll be workingLismore Base Hospital (LBH) is the recognised Trauma Centre for the North Coast Region and is linked with the local helicopter retrieval service.The hospital is an acute referral hospital of 280 beds on the Far North Coast of NSW, serving a population of approximately 170,000 people on the Far North Coast of NSW and has a busy Emergency Department (41,000 presentations annually & 55 beds/treatment spaces), 12 bed ICU and 6 bed Coronary Care Unit.RoleAfter a recent $312 million renovation, the new health facilities allow for contemporary models of care that clinicians and staff are excited to deliver in their local community. From lush hinterland villages, to Mount Warning, national parks, and sparkling beaches, the region is full of natural wonders and vibrant destinations all within a short drive from Lismore.What You''ll Be DoingThe primary purpose of a Trainee Stage 1 in Emergency Medicine is to provide safe and high-quality care, assess and manage, under supervision, patients presenting to the Emergency Department (ED) and admitted to inpatient wards when rotating to inpatient specialities. The trainee needs to be aware of their limitations and work in a collegiate and collaborate manner.Decision making and supervision will be at the appropriate level according to the trainees skills, knowledge and experience. The medical officer will be expected to adopt a progressively more independent approach to patient management according to their experience, under the guidance of and at the discretion of the appropriate Attending Medical Officer (AMO). All patients managed within the hospitals of the health service are under the direct care of a specialist medical practitioner.
