The History Museum & Art Gallery Curator is responsible for acquiring, researching, preserving and interpreting historical artifacts and collections, art collections and exhibitions. This role focuses on telling compelling stories through exhibits and public programs that reflect local, national, or artistic themes. The curator ensures the collection aligns with the museum''s mission and supports historical education and community and visitor engagement.Develop and manage the museum''s historical collections, Regional Art Gallery including acquisition, authentication, documentation, and care.Conduct in-depth research on artifacts and historical topics to support exhibitions and educational content.Work with educators, artists and programming staff to support school curriculum, lecturers and public events and exhibitions.Maintain proper conversation standards and oversee condition reports on a programmed basis.Build relationships with donors, historians, artists and cultural institutions to strengthen the collection and its impact.Write grants, proposals and scholarly articles to secure funding and share expertise.Establish and maintain digital and physical records of the collection using appropriate management systems.Represent the museum and gallery in media, at conferences, and within the historical community, locals and travelers visiting the center.Ideal QualificationsPreferred degree in history, public history, museum studies, galleries or a closely related field.Some museum and/or gallery experience focused on historical collections, artworks or exhibitions.Strong research, writing and storytelling skills.Experience/understanding of developing historical exhibitions from concept to installation.Familiarity with historical preservation, archival practices, and museum ethics.Proficiency in collection management software (e.g.; PastPerfect, TMS)Excellent communication and public speaking abilitiesPreferred SkillsKnowledge of regional history.Experience with digital archives, oral histories, or community-based curation.Grant writing.Graduate degree in curatorship or similar or equivalent experience.Ability to work independently and in a team.Unlock job insightsSalary match Number of applicants Skills matchYour application will include the following questions:Which of the following statements best describes your right to work in Australia?
