670 HUNTER CLASSASCI SHIPBUILDINGGrade: 5/6Referral Fee Value: $3000PURPOSE OF JOB:The Design Technician role is to act as a key link between design and production, ensuring engineering solutions are effectively translated into practical and manufacturable outcomes. The role supports the delivery of the Hunter Class Frigate Program by addressing production issues with clear design advice and sketches, helping to ensure the final product meets both design intent and production needs.This position is suitable for individuals at either a Grade 5 or Grade 6 level, depending on skills and experience.PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES:Collaborate with Production Engineering Support engineers to develop practical and effective solutions through accurate issue reports and clear design sketchesEngage with subject matter experts to gather input on systems and equipment, supporting informed decision-making and detailed outputsDeliver engineering recommendations and documentation to the Technical Authority to ensure the as-built product aligns with the original design intentTranslate system and equipment design intent into manufacturable solutions, incorporating changes as required to support production needsAct as a key communication link between Production and the broader business, facilitating the resolution of issues through established management processesKEY CRITERIA:Relevant trade certification (Mechanical, Electrical, or Structural) with production experience, or a tertiary qualification (degree or diploma) in a related engineering or design disciplineStrong ability to interpret CAD models, detailed design drawings, and technical documentation, including fabrication and assembly drawingsExperience in the design of steel and aluminium structuresProficiency with common engineering tools such as CAD and PLM softwareExcellent verbal and written communication skills, with a strong focus on stakeholder engagement and customer serviceDefence security clearance or eligibility to obtainPlease apply to Sara Milne online here by close of business on the closing date.
