Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer and as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will provide strategic direction, operational oversight and executive influence across planning and development, community engagement, environmental sustainability, regulatory services, and community wellbeing.This is a newly created leadership position, offering the successful candidate the opportunity to drive full business transformation, shape their own directorate and lead a newly formed team through a period of significant change and renewal. This role is instrumental in shaping a sustainable and liveable future for Townsville through integrated planning, innovative policy development and effective service delivery.We are seeking a proven leader with the capability to inspire teams, influence stakeholders and champion strategic change. You will be responsible for driving master planning and urban renewal initiatives, strengthening regulatory frameworks, and enhancing public health, liveability and environmental resilience. This includes leadership of key services such as land-use planning, development assessment, libraries, galleries, community events, regulatory compliance, sustainability programs and Council-wide communication strategies.The role requires a seasoned executive with experience leading multidisciplinary teams in complex, community-facing environments. You will demonstrate strong political acumen, a high level of emotional intelligence, and the ability to build and manage relationships across all levels of government, the community and private sectors.
