Research Assistant: Centre for Immunology and Allergy ResearchAdd expected salary to your profile for insights.The Research Assistant reports to the Director of CIAR, Associate Professor Joanne Reed, and the Clinical Director of Immunopathology at ICPMR, Associate Professor Ming Wei Lin. The role involves conducting and supporting research with clinical biobanks in the Autoimmunity & Amyloidosis Lab.This position is part of the Autoimmunity and Amyloidosis team and collaborates with members of CIAR, other research centres within WIMR, and clinical staff at Westmead Hospital.Key responsibilities include:Conducting research into immune system diseases (e.g., autoimmune diseases) using patient biobanks, with outcomes published in peer-reviewed journals.Developing and optimizing new research protocols.Improving techniques, quantitative methods, and quality control.Maintaining meticulous records and documentation.Liaising with research, clinical, administrative staff, and collaborators.Performing laboratory administrative tasks such as ordering supplies and stock management.Training students and junior staff in the laboratory.Processing clinical samples and managing biobanking for research.Assisting with setting up and maintaining registries and databases (e.g., RedCaps or equivalent).Qualifications and experience required:BSc (or equivalent) with Honours.At least 2 years of experience in a medical research laboratory.Excellent written and oral communication and presentation skills.Basic laboratory skills in cell culture and molecular biology.Proficiency in desktop reporting and database management.Flow cytometry experience (desirable).Experience in serum, plasma, and PBMC isolation (desirable).About WIMR:The Westmead Institute for Medical Research (WIMR) focuses on addressing health challenges through research that leads to clinical outcomes.
