Museum Operations and Commercial ManagerThe Hellenic Museum is home to 8,000+ years of Greek art, history and stories, all housed in the beautiful, heritage-listed Former Royal Mint building in the heart of Melbourne. We are a small and ambitious team, working hard to create exceptional experiences for the thousands of people who walk through our doors each year.Now, were looking for someone to join us in a new leadership role: Operations & Commercial Manager. If youve got experience in operations and events, can spot a commercial opportunity a mile away, and are comfortable rolling up your sleeves when needed, keep reading.This role blends strategic thinking and hands-on logistics to ensure smooth day-to-day operations.Develop and lead strategies to drive revenue through venue hire and retail.Manage relationships with caterers, suppliers and partners.Support fellow team members in delivering beautiful, well-run public and private events that reflect the museums standards and mission.Manage the Museum Operations Coordinator, who oversees the museums daily operations and volunteer program. Help ensure things are safe, smooth and visitor-friendly.Look after the nitty-gritty: rosters, reporting, budgets and forecasting.Work closely with our marketing, programming and development teams.We are seeking someone who:Has a solid background in operations, commercial management, or venue/events leadership, ideally in a museum, gallery, event space, or similar.Can manage budgets, read a profit/loss report, and knows how to get the best value out of suppliers and partnerships.Has no problem shifting between day-to-day tasks and big-picture thinking.Can juggle multiple things at once, and keep calm when things dont go to plan.Works well with people and is confident talking to suppliers, stakeholders, and visitors alike.Doesnt mind the occasional out-of-hours event (time in lieu applies).An interest in Hellenic culture and history (curiosity counts too).Experience with retail, inventory, or POS systems.An eye for events that feel thoughtful, inclusive, and well-executed.This is a genuine leadership role where youll have ownership and influence from day one.Youll work in a stunning building surrounded by passionate people and meaningful programs.You wont be just another cog; were a small team, and your ideas will be heard.Flexible part-time hours and time in lieu for out-of-hours events.A chance to help shape the future of a museum unlike any other in Australia.Sound like something youd be great at?Wed love to hear from you.
