This sense of camaraderie and cross-disciplinary expertise spurs drive and commitment to the growth of our business.The RoleReporting to the Project Controls Engineer, the Cost Controller is responsible for providing project cost performance analysis to the Project Controls Engineer and Project Team. This is a 2-year fixed-term project role based in our Wellington office. While local applicants are preferred, DIDO or FIFO arrangements will be considered for the right candidate.Primary responsibilities include effective and compliant cost attribution, financial control and reporting covering areas including budgeting, forecasting, accruals, journals, and cash flow monitoring as well as managing payments claims and budget cost variations.Key Responsibilities:Maintain, develop, and implement systems to track and report on actual and forecast costs to manage project cost exposure.Ensure financial policies, procedures, and internal controls are effectively implemented in line with Squadron Energy (SQE) standards.Collaborate with the Project Controls Engineer to report on project cost performance and create actionable insights.Provide monthly P&L and cash-flow forecasts, and analyse financial trends with the Project Manager.Support the Project Controls Engineer with reporting, project reviews, forecasts, and strategic planning.Engage proactively with Project and Contract Managers to test cost assumptions and advise on transparent cost structures.Review project team forecasts and historical costs to identify emerging issues and mitigation strategies.Lead cost attribution for month-end close, invoice processing, accruals, and financial performance reporting.Ensure budget, commitment, and cost alignment, validating financial data and monitoring contract payments.Produce risk-assessed financial forecasts across project cost codes, ensuring compliance and timely reporting with the Finance Team.Experience and Qualifications:Extensive experience managing large, complex project costs in construction or infrastructure environments.Strong proficiency with cost control systems (EcoSys or Contruent/PRISM G2) and financial systems (SAP S4HANA).Deep financial knowledge, including construction cost analysis, budget tracking, and variance reporting.Proven success in cost control across the full project lifecycle within integrated project controls teams.Relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Finance, Commerce, or Accounting; CA or CPA highly desirable.Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence outcomes and collaborate across teams.Strong problem-solving skills and independent judgment to resolve issues proactively.Ability to build and maintain effective relationships with Package Managers, Finance teams, and stakeholders.High-level organisational and prioritisation skills to meet deadlines in a dynamic environment.Advanced computer literacy, especially with Microsoft 365 and cost management tools.To ApplySquadron Energy is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
