Guidance officers employed at Banksia Beach State School will provide direct support for primary and secondary students'' mild to moderate mental health difficulties.They will add to the support already available to students at their school and become an integral part of the school''s existing school-based support team. This includes making reasonable adjustments to support applicants at all stages of the process and employee lifecycle.About The RoleResponsibilities include, but are not limited to:Develop and implement counselling and support programs for students that have a focus on preventative and early intervention strategies; are responsive to identified personal, social, emotional and educational needs; and aim to foster resilience and personal skills development.Provide professional expertise, leadership and support to school communities and networks in the development and implementation of plans, programs, and adjustments to assist students with mild to moderate mental health/wellbeing concerns to achieve positive educational, developmental and lifelong learning outcomes.GOs are required to participate in regular clinical and technical supervision, to ensure the provision of ongoing professional support and development.Advocating for and providing counselling and therapeutic intervention to individuals and/or groups, and providing student support, recommendations and advice to teachers, school staff and parents concerning mild to moderate mental health and wellbeing concerns.Identifying needs and referring on for children, parents and families to community agencies, or in the instance of severe or critical mental health concerns.Working as part of a multidisciplinary team and facilitating effective working relationships and partnerships with parents, school personnel and external support agencies in order to provide a comprehensive support, case management and referral service that optimises students'' access and engagement in educational programs.Conducting activities such as student observation and psychoeducational assessment in order to determine the nature of student wellbeing concerns and make recommendations for educational adjustments and interventions.Balancing the ethical issues of privacy and confidentiality for each student with the appropriateness of sharing information with others, and maintaining a comprehensive and professional record keeping system that complies with policy and legal requirements of parental and legal access to official records.Participating in relevant professional development, and prepare and implement professional and personal skill development programs and in-service activities for administrators, teachers and parents.Please refer to the attached role description for the full list of responsibilities and mandatory requirements for this position.Interested?
