Magistrate, Magistrates'' Court of VictoriaJoin to apply for the Magistrate, Magistrates'' Court of Victoria role at Department of Justice and Community Safety, VictoriaThe Honourable Sonya Kilkenny MP, Attorney-General, seeks expressions of interest from suitably qualified persons for appointment as a magistrate in the state of Victoria.This is not a board position. Magistrates are appointed by the Governor in Council, on the advice of the Attorney-General.Expressions of interest are sought from individuals with substantial legal experience and knowledge of the jurisdiction of the Magistrates Court and/or the Childrens Court, demonstrating high integrity, sound judgement, interpersonal skills, communication skills, and the ability to conduct hearings. Qualifications and conditions are outlined in the Magistrates Court Act 1989.Who we''re looking forPractitioners with experience in family violence, criminal law, and/or Childrens Court proceedings are strongly encouraged to apply.Following appointment, Magistrates assigned to the Magistrates Court will commence at Melbourne Magistrates Court and may be assigned elsewhere as needed. Magistrates for the Childrens Court will be assigned by the President of the Childrens Court in consultation with the Chief Magistrate.
