Senior Professional 2 - Remuneration Package Range $174,191 - $189,700(including salary $148,302 - $161,638)Berrimah Veterinary Laboratory Biosecurity and Animal WelfareDarwin, Northern TerritoryOne ongoing full-time vacancy is availableAdvance your veterinary career with a leadership role in the Northern Territorys veterinary laboratory facility in Berrimah.The Department of Agriculture and Fisheries was formed in August 2024 to enable agricultural producers to grow their business and the industry. The department underpins the Territorys reputation as a supplier of safe and quality agricultural produce through scientific research, strong biosecurity practices and compliance with animal welfare legislation.As the Director Berrimah Veterinary Laboratory you hold a senior leadership role within the biosecurity team and are responsible for providing expert and authoritative advice to the Minister and Chief Veterinary Officer on veterinary laboratory issues.Your key duties include providing scientific leadership to a diverse team of professional specialists, technical and administrative support staff providing diagnostic laboratory services to detect and respond to notifiable terrestrial animal and reportable aquatic diseases. In addition, you will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating research projects, overseeing the operational performance of the veterinary laboratory and having oversight of the work units budget. You will also be required to represent the Territory on national and international panels and participate in biosecurity emergence responses.To be successful you require a relevant tertiary qualification in Veterinary Science and a postgraduate degree in an appropriate laboratory discipline. Strong knowledge of and experience in the diagnostics of tropical animal diseases and an understanding of the domestic and international trade protocols for terrestrial and aquatic animals is essential.In return, you will receive a competitive salary, 12% superannuation, six weeks recreation and three weeks personal leave, an additional 3 days paid leave over the Christmas shutdown and up to 17.5% annual leave loading.
