Unaccredited Trainee Neurosurgery (2026 Clinical Year)Northern Beaches Hospital provides world-class, Level 5 delineation services for both public and private patients. The hospital features 486 beds, 50-bed Emergency Department, 20-bed general and cardiothoracic ICU, 14 fully equipped theatres, including hybrid theatres, two cardiac catheter labs and four procedure rooms and a state of the art education and interactive SIM centre.This is a great opportunity to join our dynamic and innovative clinical community with access to some of the most modern facilities and equipment in Sydney. We are located 10 minutes from the vibrant social precinct of the Northern Beaches area and 20 minutes from Sydney CBD.About the Neurosurgery DepartmentThe department consists of 6 neurosurgeons and services a wide range of cranial and spinal pathologies and is rapidly growing. It is equipped with state-of-the-art operative capabilities including a hybrid lab, integrated spinal and cranial neuronavigation, latest generation biplanar angiography, O-arm support for spinal instrumentation and a 20-bed ICU to facilitate high quality postoperative care. Our unaccredited trainee provides a pivotal support and communications role enabling effective care and continuity between the ward, theatre, the ICU and the neurosurgical consultants. The unaccredited trainee is also the first port of call for neurosurgical pathologies presenting to Emergency, providing critical support to this department. The department is also closely aligned with the large neurology department and provides an additional consultative service to this group as needed and will be exposed to direct neurological and neuroradiological learning and teaching opportunities. There will be exposure to on-call work in a supervised setting and opportunity for increased on-call work depending on interest.This role represents a rare opportunity for a career invested neurosurgical registrar to immerse themselves in a rapidly developing and expanding department and to be the first assistant and primary assistant in every case that occurs. Additionally, in line with the institutes strong collaborative commitments, there will also be opportunity to work with allied specialties to bolster learning and experience. A tailored, registrar-led tutorial program in line with NSA curriculum is also provided. This rewarding and immersive learning opportunity is unique in Australasia and abroad and has attracted the highest calibre neurosurgical trainees.Your RoleThe Neurosurgery - Unaccredited Trainee provides clinical assessments, management advice, care of emergency admissions and works with inpatients as required and directed; assisting with any necessary operative procedures required for the care and treatment of such patients and the arrangement of patient admission and discharge processes.
