A career at ASC is like no other, delivering a deeper purpose we can all be proud of.About the OpportunityReporting to the Technical Cross Product Team Manager, the Principal Naval Architect will support Collins Class sustainment as well as the Life of Type Extension project and will be responsible for class weight and stability management, general arrangement oversight, and multidisciplinary design activities. The role will also support the development of the technical team, and the maintenance and improvement of tools and processes.This role is based from Osborne, SA.ResponsibilitiesProvide technical leadership for sustainment of the Collins Class submarines during maintenance activities and in-service periods.Oversee multidisciplinary design projects and feasibility studies with a focus on whole of submarine functional requirements.Development and mentoring of the technical team.Review, approval and continuous improvement of engineering documentation such as docking calculations, stability calculations, range and energy calculations, structural calculations, trim polygon analyses and engineering reports.Develop work scope and technical risk assessments for in-service defects, trials and reliability issues requiring knowledge of engineering fundamentals and the Defence Seaworthiness Management System.Key areas of knowledge include submarine design, trim and stability, shock and vibration, hydrostatics, dockings, shipyard infrastructure and general structural engineering.About youBachelor of Engineering, Naval Architecture or similar (Degree must satisfy membership of the Institution of Engineers Australia at MIEAust level).Experience leading and developing multi-disciplinary teams of engineers and technical personnel.Experience with naval design, maintenance and/or operation of maritime systems.Experience conducting Naval Architecture analysis within submarine, heavy engineering, shipbuilding or defence industry.Knowledge and understanding of Defence Seaworthiness Management System (DSWMS) and its application to Engineering Delegations and Risk Levels.Knowledge of submarine operations or the shipbuilding engineering environment.Experience in providing technical repair instructions and/or overseeing work conducted.This role requires a current National Police Clearance and an Australian Defence Security Clearance.
