Backed by $10m funding from the Queensland Government and more than $20m from partners, the Alliance is positioned to make Queensland a global leader in quantum technologies for net-zero transformation. The QDA has a bold vision to shape the future of decarbonisation and is supported by core partners of UQ, Griffith, PsiQuantum and CSIRO, hosted by the Australian Research Council Centre of Excellence in Quantum Biotechnology (QUBIC) and has over 20 industry partners including Aurizon, Energy Queensland and Siemens.The QDA aims to pioneer the use of quantum computers, and especially fault-tolerant quantum computers, for high-value decarbonisation use cases such as improved battery chemistries, the development of new catalysts for hydrogen, biofuel or ammonia production, materials for hydrogen or carbon storage, or process optimisation in carbon-intensive industry. The QDA also seeks to pioneer a range of quantum sensing technologies for decarbonisation. The QDA will establish seven new academic roles, four at UQ and three at Griffith University.Key Responsibilities Of The Senior Lecturer Role Will IncludeTeaching: Develop and deliver courses, engage in curriculum design, coordinate courses, assess students, provide academic counselling, and adhere to university teaching rules. Contribute to the development and improvement of programs and course materials in the broader EECS curriculum, by consulting with program advisors and stakeholders, ensuring courses are engaging, relevant and contemporary.Research: Establish a research program in quantum technologies, with decarbonisation as a meaningful focus area, collaborate with researchers and industry across the QDA to identify and develop use-cases of quantum technologies in decarbonisation, seek and manage research funding, publish in reputable journals, utilize best practice research methodologies, and participate in project discussions.Supervision and Researcher Development: Supervise students, recruit and manage employees, provide performance feedback and training, resolve conflicts, and ensure correct remuneration and benefits.Citizenship and Service: Develop partnerships, demonstrate leadership through mentoring, engage in internal service roles and committees, perform administrative functions, provide support to colleagues, and uphold university values.This is a teaching & research position. Preferred applicants would be interested in:developing and improving fault-tolerant quantum algorithmsformulating industrial problems to make them accessible to quantum algorithmsmapping quantum algorithms to specific use cases and applicationsoptimizing algorithms in the context of such use cases and applicationscompiling algorithms for use on early-generation hardware.We also encourage applicants interested in other quantum technologies such as quantum sensors and simulators, and their applications in decarbonisation.It Is Expected That The Successful Applicant Would Have The Demonstrated Capability And Willingness To Teach Into One Or More Of The Teaching Areas Within The School And To Contribute To Extending The Curriculum To Teach The Next Generation Of Computer Science, IT, And Engineering Graduates In Quantum Computing. Candidates Will Ideally Be Able To DemonstrateCompletion of a PhD in a related field with a research track record related to the development and applications of quantum technologies.A developing international research profile as evidenced through publications in high-quality refereed journals and international conferences and successfully seeking, obtaining, and managing external research funding.Demonstrated ability to work efficiently in multi-disciplinary teamsEvidence of a high level of quality teaching at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate level.Experience in course coordination and leadership in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material.An established track record of supervision of Honours and Research Higher Degree students to successful completion.Demonstrated leadership and strong contributions in internal and external service roles.The successful candidate may be required to complete a number of pre-employment checks, including: right to work in Australia, criminal check, education check.Relocating from interstate or overseas?
