We deliver 28 key services such as childcare, waste collection, parks maintenance, libraries, community facilities and aquatic centres to over 380,000 residents.The roleWe are seeking an Environmental Investigations Officer to join our Regulatory Services team. Reporting to the Team Leader Investigations, youll be responsible for investigating unauthorised tree removal or damage, enforcing tree protection and environmental compliance on development sites, and supporting Councils obligations under the Biosecurity Act 2015 to manage environmental weeds.This role also involves providing technical advice, contributing to team capability development, and working collaboratively across Council to protect and manage our natural environment.Duties will include but not be limited to:Investigate unauthorised tree removal, damage, or poisoningEnforce tree protection and environmental compliance on development sitesSupport compliance activities under the Biosecurity Act 2015Issue Notices and Orders for dangerous trees threatening life or propertyAssist with day-to-day operations and escalated matters within the unitLead or undertake significant investigations as requiredInterpret legislation and provide legal and compliance advicePrepare and manage prosecution matters, including court readinessIssue fines, Notices, Orders, and Court Attendance NoticesSupport training and policy development for compliance teamsCoordinate covert surveillance and analyse environmental trendsParticipate in SOP reviews and professional forumsIdentify training needs and recommend improvementsRepresent Council professionally in community interactionsContribute to operational efficiency and workplace reform initiativesFor a full list of duties, click HERE to review the position description.You will haveDiploma in Horticulture or arboriculture experience with knowledge of tree standardsC Class Drivers LicenceExperience in tree and weed management, including maintenance proceduresStrong written skills with experience reporting on tree-related issuesSound knowledge of Local Government, Environmental, and Planning legislationAble to investigate and resolve issues promptly and methodicallyConfident decision-maker with strong problem-solving skillsExcellent interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skillsDesirable, but not essential: relevant tertiary qualifications in Investigations or related discipline and extensive job-related experience.The salary range for this opportunity starts at $93,583 (Grade G, Step 1) + Car Allowance/Leaseback + Super.Salary Is Negotiable Dependent On Skills And Experience.Whats on offerAn Attractive Remuneration Package.Embrace a better work-life balance with our Accrued Time Off program, designed to prioritise your well-being and help you manage the balance between your personal and professional life.Contribute to making a positive impact on our community.An investment in your professional growth, fostering continuous learning and development opportunities.Access to our employee Health and Wellbeing Programs.For more information, please contact Sally Rayner (Acting Team Leader Investigations) at sally.rayner@cbcity.nsw.gov.auYou will need to submit your application via the Apply button below and create a login using your email address and upload aResume; andCover Letter addressing the selection criteria within the position description and explaining your suitability for the role.Applications close Friday 15 August 2025.CBCity is an equal opportunity employer committed to providing a working environment that embraces and values diversity and inclusion.
