Applicants should be a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and/or other specialist recognition as provided for in the Staff Specialist (State) Award. Central Coast is comprised of the twin areas of Gosford and Wyong, positioned between Sydney and Newcastle, with population growth expected from about 300,000 to 450,000 by 2030. The Local Health District has strong connections with Royal North Shore Hospital and the University of Newcastle. The Central Coast Integrated Pain Service (CCIPS) is a non-interventional service based at Gosford Hospital. You will be one of 2 medical staff working within a multidisciplinary pain team including a psychologist, OT, Physio and nurse. The service is outward-facing, with future plans to include in-facing chronic pain management. CCIPS services the entire LHD with a geographic area from Hawkesbury to Lake Macquarie, and faces a significant burden of chronic pain in areas of socioeconomic deprivation, high polypharmacy and opioid consumption. At Gosford Hospital we have the Cancer Care Centre and a dynamic palliative care department, as well as hybrid facilities within the theatre complex. CCIPS is currently out-facing, but there is recognition of the role of chronic pain medicine in palliative interventions, with planned expansion where appropriate. CCIPS sits under the Department of Anaesthetics, an accredited training site for ANZCA. Trainee opportunities are available, including a scholarship programme for local GPs to improve community management, and involvement with the University of Newcastle for undergraduate teaching. Dual FANZCA and FFPM (or equivalents) holders seeking a mixed practice of anaesthesia and chronic pain management are encouraged to discuss with Dr Page. Responsibilities / Duties Provide high-level medical care and multidisciplinary management within CCIPS for chronic pain patients. Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team (psychology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, nursing) to deliver outpatient services. Engage in teaching and supervision of medical trainees, residents and medical students; contribute to training and quality improvement activities. Participate in quality improvement and service development activities within CCIPS and the broader Department of Anaesthetics. Contribute to linkage with palliative care services and cancer care as part of future service expansion. Qualifications Medical practitioner registered or eligible for registration in Australia with unrestricted or 19AB exempted provider number. Recognised specialist qualifications, Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine, Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists. Appropriate experience to practice as a Senior Medical Practitioner in Pain Medicine. Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team with strong interpersonal and communications skills. Willingness and ability to lead and supervise medical and surgical trainees, residents and medical students; teaching the management of the deteriorating patient is advantageous. Interest in quality improvement methodologies. Understanding of how the District provides care to the Coast and how this role contributes.
