OverviewJoin the team that keeps our city green and thriving as an Open Spaces Operator. We are seeking a dedicated and proactive team member to support the maintenance and enhancement of Councils Open Spaces and assets. The role involves hands-on labouring activities and mowing across the city, ensuring public areas are kept in optimal condition through efficient use of resources and adherence to Council standards. The successful candidate will assist in the upkeep and security of equipment, tools and infrastructure, while identifying opportunities for operational improvements and contributing to the review of completed works.ResponsibilitiesCarry out general open spaces maintenance duties, including operation of hand-held and ride-on self-propelled plant.Demonstrate a practical mindset with a strong focus on safety and high standards in public environments.Support maintenance and security of equipment, tools and infrastructure.Identify opportunities for operational improvements and contribute to the review of completed works.Ideal CandidateCertificate II or III in: Nursery, Parks and Gardens, Landscape, Conservation Land Management, Arboriculture or Turf Maintenance.Proven experience in open spaces maintenance, including front deck mowers and related equipment.Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective teamwork and public interaction.Ability to work independently and complete tasks with minimal supervision.Solid understanding of WHS, statutory requirements and quality systems.Willingness to contribute to business and quality system improvements.Basic competency in using computers and mobile devices.About UsShellharbour City, located in the Illawarra region, is just 80 minutes south of Sydney and is home to over 82,000 people in a city that spans 154 square kilometres.
