The Role This is a unique opportunity in a unique coastal lifestyle location. The role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) supports councillors, staff and the community in developing and delivering a clear vision for a vibrant and sustainable Shellharbour region. The CEO will embed a culture of continuous improvement, provide leadership, foster and drive local economic development, and demonstrate a commitment to the Shellharbour region, its people and the future. Functionally, the CEO is responsible for overall leadership, direction and accountability for the operations and functions of Council. This key role drives the development and delivery of Councils strategic plans, policies and governance frameworks, while ensuring sound financial management. Above all, the CEO is responsible for making sure Council meets its obligations to the community and delivers on its commitments. Responsibilities Provide leadership and accountability for Council operations, ensuring delivery of strategic plans, policies and governance frameworks. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and drive local economic development opportunities. Ensure sound financial management and transparency in reporting to the community and Council. Collaborate with councillors, staff and external stakeholders to build effective partnerships. Represent the organisation and advocate for the Shellharbour regions interests. Uphold statutory obligations and responsibilities within the Local Government context. About You Shellharbour is a thriving region with opportunities and challenges. You will be a highly regarded leader of people with a history of guiding organisations and communities through change, building cultures that you and the organisation are proud of, and a strong focus on outcomes. Highly developed communication and advocacy skills are essential, as is the ability to develop effective partnerships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders. Familiarity with relevant Local Government legislation is preferable, as is knowledge of changing social, political and economic issues facing the local government sector. The CEO will play a pivotal role in Shellharbour City Councils path of growth and change.
