Job Description

Overview Scouut Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Make the Ocean Safer with Machine Learning & Computer Vision! Most ML runs in labs. Yours will run on vessels in open waters, preventing collisions, protecting whales & dolphins, and setting the standard for autonomy at sea. As a Senior ML & Computer Vision Engineer at Greenroom Robotics, youll build the optical perception stack that makes autonomy safe in one of the harshest real-world domains: the open ocean. This is your chance to see your models deployed in the real world, providing a layer of safety, unlocking research potential, and protecting wildlife with real time computer vision technology. Why This Role Will Change Your Career Your models ship to vessels around the world, helping to protect marine life, avoiding collisions, and enabling safer, cleaner maritime operations. Youll set the ML and CV standards for the Lookout+ optical radar system, shaping the pipeline from data to deployment. This is edge computer vision at night, through glare, spray, and waves. These are complex, meaty challenges that you''ll be taking the reins on. You''ll join a bootstrapped, profitable startup at the beginning of their scale up journey, with genuinely valuable equity on offer. Work in an elite 14-person engineering team shaping global autonomy standards, with high stakes collaborations and live commercial deployments. Have the (completely optional) opportunity to venture out to sea on vessels with customers to see the tech you build being used in the real world. What Youll Do Youll be trusted to own the Greenroom Robotics perception layer end-to-end: Design and optimise ML & CV algorithms that run in real time on vessels at sea. Integrate and calibrate multi-sensor setups (camera, radar, IMUs). Build and refine sensor fusion pipelines powering Gamma , the Greenroom autonomy stack. Train, test, and deploy models via the in-house simulator and live in the field. Implement transformations for accurate geolocation of hazards. Stand up the ML pipeline - from raw data through to deployed and monitored models. You''ve built and deployed ML/CV systems (ideally PyTorch/TensorFlow) into production. You''re fluent in Python and C++, and comfortable in ROS/ROS2 environments. You know your way around calibration, sensor fusion, and spatial transformations. You''ve wrangled data pipelines and MLOps (Docker, CI/CD, monitoring). You thrive in small, high-calibre teams where high amounts of ownership is expected. You care deeply about oceans, autonomy, and building things that actually make a difference. If you''ve been exposed to most, but not all of these, please still apply - we''d love to talk to you. Greenroom Robotics is Australias leading provider of Maritime Autonomous Systems. They''re a profitable startup ready to capitalise on their success, and scale significantly over the next 1-2 years. Their mission is to enable safe, clean, and protected oceans, and they currently have 4 products deployed in the wild, making that mission a reality. With the team split across Sydney and Perth, you can work from either location - but due to the hardware related nature of the work, this is a predominantly in office role (4 days/week) in either location.
