Edgars Mission is a not for profit sanctuary for rescued farmed animals that seeks to create a humane and just world for humans and non-humans. Set on 153 peaceable acres situated just outside of Lancefield, the sanctuary is nestled in the tranquillity of the Macedon Ranges.Edgars Mission rescues and provides sanctuary to farmed animals in need, currently providing lifelong love and care to over 450 rescued animals. Through advocacy and engaging with communities, we encourage people to expand their circle of compassion to include all animals.Primary ResponsibilitiesEnsure animals have consistent access to clean, fresh water by cleaning and refilling water sources such as troughs, waterers and pondsSupport animal feeding routines by maintaining clean, accessible feeding stations and assisting the Animal Care team through removal of old hay and cleaning of food bowlsPromote animal comfort and hygiene by keeping living spaces dry and sanitary through regular removal of soiled bedding and flooring materials in shelters and bird housesNurture animals individual needs by performing cleaning duties unique to each animal areaPreserve the beauty and integrity of the sanctuary grounds with general yard and sanctuary maintenance tasks, such as raking, collecting debris and weedingExtend the lifespan and reliability of care equipment by cleaning and maintaining tools and supplies, ensuring they are safe, functional, and ready for useSafeguard animal health and wellbeing by reporting any physical or behavioural concerns of animalsFoster a culture of compassion and trust by consistently treating sanctuary residents with patience, dignity and kindnessQualitiesCommitment to kindness a personal alignment with Edgars Missions vision of a compassionate and just world for all beingsCompassion and empathy a genuine care for animals and a commitment to their wellbeingReliability and accountability a strong sense of responsibility, with the ability to consistently follow through on duties and commitmentsPhysical stamina and resilience the capacity to perform outdoor, physically demanding, handson tasks in varying weather conditions while maintaining focus and care (eg. bend, lift up to 10kg, walk up to 5k)Attention to detail excellent observational skills and an ability to notice and respond to hygienic and safety concerns of our animal residents environmentsTeamoriented mindset the ability to work collaboratively, proactively and respectfully within a team, while also being comfortable working independentlyEffective communication clear and respectful communication skills, including the ability to both give and receive constructive feedbackCommitment to safe work practices awareness of and adherence to safety and biosecurity protocols is critical to protect animals, people, and the sanctuary environmentDesirable QualitiesPrevious experience working or volunteering with farmed animals and/or in an animal sanctuary, shelter, or welfare organisationMeaningful impact - play a direct role in improving the lives of animals, advocating for their wellbeing, and contributing to a kinder worldPurposedriven work - be part of a missiondriven organisation where your contribution creates positive change, witnessing firsthand the rewarding and inspiring transformational journeys of animalsUnique setting - enjoy working onsite in a natural, peaceful environment surrounded by animals - far from a typical corporate office setting!Collaborative community - join a passionate, likeminded team dedicated to animal wellbeing, advocacy and educationVariety and learning - experience a diverse and handson role with opportunities to develop animal care skills across multiple speciesApplyAt Edgars Mission, we believe in fostering potential and supporting those who share our deep commitment to kindness, compassion, and creating a better world for animals. If you align with our values and have the drive to make a difference, wed love to hear from you!Trades & Maintenance , Working with AnimalsSuitable forCommitmentRegular - more than 6 monthsTrainingYou will be provided with an onsite group induction day, then paired with an experienced volunteer who will provide you with further handson training on how to complete the assigned tasks and how to interact and with the animals on your first day as a regular volunteer. Online written and video training resources are made available for your review.Time requiredAny day of the week (MonSun), from 8:30am until 2:30pm, weekly or fortnightly.Requirements- Must be 18 years or over- Able to commit to 1 day (6 hours) per week or fortnight for a minimum of 6 months- Have own reliable transport to and from the sanctuary- Share a commitment to our mission of kindness and our vision of a compassionate and just world for all #J-18808-Ljbffr
