2026 Senior Hospital Medical Officer (Obstetrics & Gynaecology) In 2026, Western Health is offering hospital medical officers an opportunity to join our obstetrics and gynaecology senior HMO team for a twelve-month term. These positions are ideal for ambitious HMOs aiming for a career in Obstetrics & Gynaecology, whether pursuing the RANZCOG Integrated Training Program or a procedural focus within rural General Practice. Locations include the Sunshine Hospital/Joan Kirner Womens & Childrens Hospital, with rotations across JKWC and Bacchus Marsh Hospital. The role provides dedicated training, supervised procedural experience (including Elective Caesarean Section training), and strong support for pathways to the RANZCOG ITP or rural GP pathways. Upon successful completion, you will have gained broad exposure to Obstetrics & Gynaecology and positioned for FRANZCOG Integrated Training, with opportunities to act at a Junior Registrar level during leave and support for applications to RANZCOG programs. Key Responsibilities Elective Caesarean Section (ECS) training under direct supervision of an O&G Consultant Dynamic birthing suite experience: acute obstetric service, labour management, operative vaginal deliveries, and essential emergency obstetric procedures Comprehensive outpatient gynaecology: minor surgical procedures (e.g., IUD insertion, hysteroscopy, D&Cs) and Early Pregnancy Assessment Service (EPAS) Antenatal care with rotations through Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) Emergency gynaecology experience with EDOG referrals: assessment and management planning Rostered night duty across obstetrics, gynaecology, and peri-operative periods Education, quality improvement, and research involvement Procedural skill development through the Associate Training Program - Procedural (formerly DRANZCOG) and opportunities for further specialization About You Completed PGY2+ at time of application Minimum of six (6) months of prior clinical experience in Obstetrics & Gynaecology Strong interest in Womens Health and eligibility for RANZCOG Training Program or Associate Training Program - Advanced Procedural; refer to RANZCOG for detailed requirements Selection is highly competitive and based on curriculum vitae, references, and interview performance.
