Join our Visy Automation team and play a key role in keeping our packaging automation systems running at peak performance across customer sites.Job no: 513396 Work type: Full Time Location: Melbourne - WestThe OpportunityWe are looking for a hands-on and motivated Field Service Technician to deliver electrical and mechanical service, maintenance, installation, and support for our automated packaging equipment. This permanent role involves working as part of the Visy Automation service team, providing breakdown support, preventative maintenance, and commissioning of machinery. Youll have the chance to work across a range of systems including robotics, PLCs, servo drives, conveyors, and associated mechanical components.The role requires an A Grade Electrical Licence, but is also open to candidates with strong mechanical aptitude, mechatronics experience, or trade qualifications in pneumatics or hydraulics.Reporting to the National Service Manager, youll ensure machinery performance, minimise downtime, and maintain customer satisfaction across multiple sites, with occasional interstate travel.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform electrical and mechanical service, installation, and repairs on Visy Automation equipmentTroubleshoot and maintain PLCs, touchscreen interfaces, robotics, servo drives, and motorsAssist with commissioning and modifications of new or existing machineryConduct machine audits and recommend improvements for efficiency and reliabilityRead and interpret AutoCAD diagrams, manuals, and technical documentsDeliver training to customer personnel on safe and effective equipment operationMaintain detailed service records, including fault diagnostics and part recommendationsWork collaboratively with engineers, suppliers, sales, and customer teams to deliver resultsAdhere to all Visy and customer site safety protocolsWhat You Will Bring to the TeamCurrent A Grade Electrical Licence (Victoria) mandatory5+ years experience in field service, maintenance, or installation within manufacturing, packaging, or automationStrong mechanical aptitude or trade/technical skillsExperience troubleshooting and maintaining PLCs (Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron), robotics, servo drives, conveyors, and pneumaticsExcellent problem-solving skills with a methodical approach to diagnosing issuesAbility to read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and AutoCAD schematicsIntermediate computer skills, including MS Office and basic network/device troubleshootingStrong communication skills and a focus on delivering exceptional customer serviceFlexibility to travel interstate occasionally, and willingness to work safely in diverse environmentsCertifications & LicencesMandatory: A Grade Electrical Licence (Victoria)Desirable: Robotics experience (ABB or similar), post-trade mechanical, pneumatics, or engineering qualificationsWhat Youll Love When You Join VisyVariety: Work across a broad range of electrical and mechanical systems on customer sites throughout AustraliaInnovation: Be part of a team advancing automation in packagingGrowth: Access to ongoing technical training and defined career development pathwaysSupport: Work in a collaborative team that values safety, integrity, and innovationReady to take your technical career on the road?
