About Us The Queensland Fire Department (QFD) provides fire prevention, preparedness and response services, scientific and specialist capabilities to Queensland communities, supporting a multihazard emergency response including bushfire, hazardous material, technical and vertical rescue, severe weather incidents, remote and swiftwater rescue, and community safety outcomes. The QFD encompasses Queensland Fire and Rescue (QFR), Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ), and broader departments working together to manage the consequences of fires and other emergencies across Queensland. The QFD is focused on fostering relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, communities and organisations through the Path to Treaty, Closing the Gap and building cultural capability. Purpose of the Role The Predictions unit delivers decision support capabilities to support multihazard intelligence. You will plan, develop, maintain and improve decision support systems, and work closely with the scientific community, the Bureau of Meteorology, GIS, interstate emergency services and land management agencies to provide accurate, actionable intelligence for QFD. Key Requirements Knowledge and/or experience using a GIS platform and decision support intelligence tools. Willingness to undertake nationally recognised training within predictive services, e.g., Fire Behaviour Analyst (FBAN). Qualifications in relevant disciplines and understanding of Queensland Disaster Management Arrangements and incident management systems such as the Australasian Interservice Incident Management System. Special Requirements The incumbent may participate in an oncall roster, working outside normal hours, including night shifts, weekends and extended hours; deployments intrastate or interstate may be required. Responsibilities Contribute to the QFD multihazard intelligence function: determine requirements, collect data, process, analyse, and disseminate outputs across all phases of disaster management. Manage development, implementation, oversight and evaluation of large data sets integral to predictive services systems and bushfire hazard simulations. Develop and implement networks, governance, policy and doctrine to enhance intelligencebased capabilities and share information. Prepare and review scripts, GIS data and workflows, and network file stores to maintain highquality systems for planning. Assist in preparing briefing papers, submissions and reports following organisational requirements. Contribute to risk communication and education strategies, liaising between QFD regions, other emergency services, groups and the community. Build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to meet customer requirements and business objectives. Participate in a dynamic work environment, fostering teamwork and engaging in performance and development programs.
