About the roleWe are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager with strong expertise in Mainframe technologies, Connex, and Assembler programming, combined with deep understanding of the Merchant Acquiring and Payments domain. The role will be pivotal in leading a team of engineers responsible for delivering high-quality, scalable, and reliable solutions that support critical payment switching and acquiring systems.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of mainframe engineers (Assembler, COBOL, Connex) in delivering high-performance payment solutions. Drive design reviews, code quality, and modernization initiatives across the acquiring and switching systems.Delivery & Operations: Oversee production support, incident management, and continuous improvement for Connex and BASE24 systems. Ensure operational stability, availability, and performance of payment transaction platforms. Manage critical batch processes, deployments, and release cycles within defined SLAs.Stakeholder & Collaboration: Collaborate with business, architecture, and infrastructure teams to ensure alignment between technology capabilities and business goals. Work closely with global teams (e.g., NAB/ANZ) to ensure seamless transition, integration, and cultural alignment. Contribute to modernization initiatives including migration from legacy mainframe systems to hybrid or digital platforms. Explore AI/automation opportunities for incident reduction, test automation, and faster release velocity.People Management: Build and develop a high-performing engineering team with a focus on technical depth, collaboration, and accountability. Drive knowledge management, training, and continuous learning across the team.Required Skills and ExperienceTechnical Expertise:Strong experience in Connex / Base24, Assembler, COBOL, and Mainframe (z/OS) environments.Understanding of ISO8583 message formats, transaction routing, and authorization flows.Hands-on experience in debugging, performance tuning, and problem isolation within payment switch systems.Familiarity with ACI systems, Card Schemes (Visa, Mastercard), and settlement/reconciliation processes.Domain Knowledge:In-depth understanding of Merchant Acquiring, POS, Switching, and Transaction Processing Systems.Exposure to banking and payment ecosystem including fraud, dispute, and clearing processes.Proven experience managing distributed engineering teams (onshore/offshore).Strong delivery management, agile practices, and stakeholder communication skills.Ability to define and track engineering KPIs, SLAs, and continuous improvement goals.Tech Mahindra is an Equal Employment Opportunity employer.
