Senior Aboriginal Health Worker - Adolescent Mental Health Unit (Identified) Employment Type: Permanent Full Time Location: Nepean Hospital Position Classification: Aboriginal Health Worker Senior Remuneration: $93,764.00 - $97,261.00 per annum Hours Per Week: 38 Recruitment ID: REQ610864 Application Close: 04/11/2025 This role is identified for Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people on the basis of a genuine occupational qualification under Section 14(d) of the AntiDiscrimination Act 1977. Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander applicants must demonstrate Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander status in addition to addressing the selection criteria. Responsibilities Champion culturally safe, compassionate care for Aboriginal adolescent inpatients and their families. Integrate Aboriginal cultural values and perspectives into mental health service delivery. Build trust with Aboriginal communities and shape culturally responsive practices across NAMHU and CYFMH. Mentor the next generation through supervision of a Djirruwang Mental Health Trainee and two Aboriginal mental health roles in CYFMH community teams. Collaborate with the Namuragunya Mental Health team and the Manager of Aboriginal Health to support holistic, communitydriven care. Contribute to service improvement, culturally safe care models, and Aboriginal mental health initiatives. Qualifications & Experience Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent (identified position). Tertiary qualifications (minimum Certificate III) in Mental Health, Peer Work, Social Work, Community Development or related field; or equivalent experience. Extensive experience in Aboriginal health, mental health, or community services, with knowledge of social and emotional wellbeing issues affecting Aboriginal youth. Highlevel interpersonal and communication skills; ability to build trust with young people, families, and interdisciplinary teams. Awareness of NSW Health policies and protocols on privacy, confidentiality, Code of Conduct, Work Health & Safety, and clinical governance. Demonstrated leadership, mentorship, or supervisory experience with Aboriginal staff or trainees. Proven ability to develop partnerships with Aboriginal communities, Elders, and Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations. Experience contributing to service improvement, culturally safe care models or Aboriginal mental health initiatives.
