Charity organisation Hervey Bay Rotary ZBus, is an out-of-service bus converted into safe and secure sleeping accommodation for people experiencing homelessness in the Fraser Coast region. It operates Friday and Saturday nights parked at Apex Park, Pialba, and is run by a supportive team of volunteers in a variety of roles. No lock-in commitments, full training and ongoing support provided for all volunteers. Volunteer Roles available: Service Volunteer Welcome guests and settle them into their sleep pods (Friday or Saturday evening 7:45pm-10:00pm) Overnight Caretaker Sleeping onboard in secure caretaker cabin overnight, having remote access to communicate with guests during the night if required. No physical contact with guests once pods are shut for the night (Friday or Saturday 7:45pm - 7:00am) Housekeeping Changing bed sheets and emptying portable toilets at Wide Bay Transit (Saturday or Sunday mornings, anytime to suit you approx 1-2 hours) Bus Drivers MR Licence required. Driving bus from Wide Bay Transit to Apex Park (Friday or Saturday evenings 7pm), or back to the depot (Saturday or Sunday mornings 7am) Drivers Driver Taking the bus drivers to and from the depot after they drive the bus. (Evening or morning shifts) Initial buddy shifts to learn the ropes - you choose the roles that best suit you. Regular team training and social opportunities with a fun and passionate team. Rostering is online, you sign up to what shifts you have availability for fortnightly, every little bit of your time helps and is immensely appreciated.
