Click here to learn more about Grammar 150 and what you can expect if you were to join TGS in 2025.About the PositionReporting to the Director of Facilities, the Head Greenkeeper leads the delivery of grounds maintenance, sports field care, and landscaping projects across the School. Key aspects include curating turf wickets and high-quality sporting fields; marking and preparing fields; collaborating with the TGS Sports Department and attending interdepartmental meetings; managing rostering and resource coverage for the cricket season; overseeing equipment training, maintenance, and records in line with the TGS Asset Management Policy; installing, maintaining, and programming irrigation; implementing seasonal schedules; supporting sustainability and health, safety and environment requirements. The position may require a non-standard roster, including alternating weekends or on-call duty for home games and large School events.Selection CriteriaYou will be able to demonstrate your ability and commitment to:Experience and Qualifications: Minimum of 4 years experience as a Head Greenkeeper or similar role; proven experience curating turf wickets and high-quality sporting fields; Certificate III or IV in sports turf management, horticulture or related field; Queensland Driver Licence; and current first aid qualifications or willingness to obtain.Technical Expertise in Greenkeeping: Demonstrated ability to curate and manage turf wickets and sports fields, including rugby, soccer and athletics surfaces is essential. Proficiency in operating groundskeeping equipment, irrigation systems, and expertise in plant care and pest control. Experience in planning and executing landscaping projects and managing fertiliser and pest control programs is essential.Leadership and Management: Demonstrated ability to provide management and direction to a grounds team, including staff rostering and resource coverage for the cricket season. Proven experience in coordinating with internal departments, contractors, and vendors to deliver high-quality outcomes. Experience in budget forecasting and managing operational budgets. The ability to manage equipment maintenance schedules and maintain accurate records in accordance with the TGS Asset Management PolicyPhysical Capabilities: Proven capacity to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions, including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, lifting, and operating groundskeeping equipment. Ability to carry out repetitive manual tasks while maintaining attention to detail and safety standards. Endurance and resilience are key to ensuring the upkeep of large outdoor areas and responding promptly to maintenance needs across the Schools grounds.Health, Safety and Environment Awareness: Demonstrated commitment to workplace health and safety, including compliance with regulations, maintaining clean and safe workshop areas, and proactively identifying and addressing hazards. Strong understanding of sustainability practices in groundskeeping, with the ability to integrate environmental considerations into daily operations.Attention to Detail and Problem-Solving Skills: Demonstrated ability to identify and resolve issues early to maintain high standards across all grounds and facilities. Shows initiative and ownership of tasks, ensuring sports fields and landscaped areas are well-prepared, safe, and visually appealing.
