Job Description

Overview Byron Shire Council invites applications for a proactive Community Project Officer to support council transition to new governance models for community halls. This termlimited role (3 days per week, 21 hours, fixed term 2 years with possible extension) focuses on strengthening governance and management of community facilities. Key Focus Areas Support the Community Facilities Unit in implementing changes for facilities managed by Section 355 Committees. Contribute to corporate goals and a positive, collaborative workplace culture across all Council Directorates. Build and maintain strong relationships with volunteers and stakeholders to achieve community outcomes. Provide guidance, advice, and assistance to volunteers who support community facilities. Liaise with internal teams to resolve complex leasing, licensing, and operational issues. Develop and implement policies, programs, and projects to improve facility safety, utilisation, and community benefit. Ensure financial compliance, assist with budgeting, and maintain activities within budgetary limits. Responsibilities Serve as the primary contact for Section 355 Committees and implement policies and systems. Lead the development and delivery of a volunteer program. Collaborate with volunteers, hall hirers, and internal teams to manage facilities effectively. Resolve requests, issues, and complaints related to leased and licensed community buildings. Qualifications & Experience Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field. Substantial experience in Community Development, Public Administration, or related field. Sound practical experience in project management, including initiation, coordination, monitoring, and evaluation. Experience in community engagement, research, and report writing. Knowledge of policy and programme development, service delivery, and local government practices. Desired Skills & Knowledge Excellent interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills. Strong written communication and professional documentation skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a multiskilled team. What We Offer 3 days per week, 2year fixed term contract. Flexible working arrangements. Salary and conditions in accordance with the NSW Local Government Award, ranging from $1,615.14 to $1,871.39 per week full time equivalent, dependent on skills and experience.
