About the RoleReporting to the Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a role in managing the geotechnical risk of the Carrapateena operation, as we safely increase production from our deepening SLC operation while also building a brand-new block cave (and associated infrastructure). It is a fantastic opportunity to gain experience at an operating caving mine that is also expanding to block caving. This position is based at Carrapateena on an 8 days on / 6 days off FIFO roster from Adelaide.In This Role You WillHelp manage geotechnical risks, and develop and verify ground support standards during the mining of a major chamber underground (transfer chamber)Ensure quality control & assurance (QAQC) of ground support systemsSupport the operation by continued geotechnical data collection and interpretation for update of geotechnical/structural models, major infrastructure design, ground control planning and long-term development/production plansManage geotechnical monitoring databasesRespond to geotechnical hazards including cave, seismicity, ground control and inrush/mudrushCollaborate with internal and external stakeholders to drive value-add projectsCommunicate to key stakeholders with respect to geotechnical hazard managementDesign & execute instrumentation programs to aid geotechnical hazard managementOther geotechnical role functions as requiredAbout YouYou are a driven individual who works well in a team, likes to think outside of the box, and strives for technical and operating excellence.You Also HaveGeotechnical Engineering experience in an underground metalliferous mine preferredUndergraduate qualifications in Geotechnical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering or Earth Sciences (Geology, Geophysics)Ability to work in high pressure and dynamic environmentsAbility to develop and maintain strong relationshipsAbility to work independently in office and undergroundExperience With The FollowingImplementation of geotechnical processes and systemsQAQC of ground support systemsGeotechnical mapping, monitoring systems, ground support calculations/designs and stability analysesEstablishing and/or maintaining aspects of a geotechnical management systemCollection & interpretation of geotechnical observations and geological data (structure)Experience using mining/geotechnical software (Deswik, MxRap, IMS suite, Leapfrog)How To ApplyPlease apply before 8 November 2025About Our ProcessAt BHP, we are committed to employing individuals who align with the BHP Charter Values and meet the requirements of the role.
