Construction Inspector monitors the inspection, testing, and evaluation of roadways, bridges, buildings, and utility systems to maintain safety and operational effectiveness. Monitors testing of water pumping systems, electronic controls, and pressurized pipe systems. Prepares daily and monthly reports on work performed, including progress, quality, and estimated costs. Compares work progress against schedules to assess compliance and initiate partial payments to contractors and vendors. Duties And Responsibilities Monitor the inspection of roads, bridges, drainage facilities, buildings, underground utilities, and other construction projects to ensure work quality and progress align with prescribed schedules and specifications. Monitor testing of water pumping systems, electronic controls, and pressurized pipe systems. Prepare daily and monthly reports on specific work performed, including progress, quality, and estimated costs, in comparison with work schedules to assess compliance and support partial payments to contractors and vendors. Display thorough knowledge of City of Albuquerque Standards and Specifications and New Mexico Department of Transportation (NMDOT) Standards and Specifications. Perform inspection and observation of highway and bridge construction work for compliance with Bernalillo County plans, specifications, and contract documents. Work includes, but is not limited to, inspection of earthwork, hot mix asphalt, concrete structures, concrete placements, base course, subgrade, guardrails, culverts, drainage structures, curb and gutter, sidewalks, lighting, signals, striping, utilities, and traffic control. Interpret plans, specifications, and contract documents to verify contract compliance. Prepare daily work reports and maintain documentation of contractor work performed, materials testing, and traffic control using the IPM Construction Management System, spreadsheets, or other electronic/manual systems. Perform sampling and testing of concrete in conformance with TTCP specifications and procedures. Perform moisture/density testing of soils, base course, and hot mix asphalt (HMA) in conformance with Bernalillo County and NMDOT specifications using a portable moisture/density gauge. Perform sampling of soils, base course, aggregates, and HMA in conformance with NMDOT specifications and procedures. Document and report work item quantities accepted and approved for payment; enter pay quantities using Bernalillo Countys IPM Construction Management Software; prepare and review reports and related documentation. Verify contractor compliance with project safety procedures; inspect and document contractor traffic control setups. Four (4) years of work experience in general construction, testing of roadways, earthworks, underground utilities, culverts, bridges and other public works facilities, or a related field. Screening and Compliance Employee must successfully complete the postoffer employment medical examination and background investigation. This position is safety sensitive. Employment is subject to a preemployment and random drug testing in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state rules and regulations regarding alcohol and/or drug testing. Employee must comply with the Countys Safety Policy requirements. Employee must have a valid New Mexico drivers license by employment date and maintain a valid NM drivers license while employed in this position. Employee must maintain all required certifications. Employee must complete required FEMA training(s) as assigned to position. Must attain the following certification(s) within nine (9) months of employment: Approved Nuclear densometer certification and approved concrete field-testing certification. Working Conditions Duties are performed primarily outdoors which entails exposure to extremes of weather conditions. Indoor duties are performed in a temperaturecontrolled environment on an even carpeted or tiled surface. Outdoor duties may be performed on both even and uneven surfaces which may be either wet or dry. Surfaces may be inclined or flat, and range from natural undisturbed soil to gravel, asphalt, or concrete. May perform duties alone or as part of a group. Work hazards or potential work hazards include exposure to noise, vibration, dust, exhaust fumes, mists, chemicals and severe weather conditions; driving of vehicles; working in and around heavy equipment; and performing duties on rough terrain. Equipment, Tools, and Materials Equipment typically used in the performance of office duties includes telephone, twoway radio, computer, printer, and copy machine. County vehicle is used by employee in traveling from sitetosite throughout the County. Safety vest and hardhat are used by worker in performance of outdoor duties.
