UGL Kwinana Beach, Western Australia, Australia UGL is seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineer with API 653 certification to join our team, specialising in the assessment, design, and execution of repairs and upgrades for above ground storage tanks (ASTs). This role is critical in ensuring the integrity, safety, and compliance of our tank assets in line with API 653 standards. You will be responsible for conducting detailed inspections, developing engineered repair solutions, and overseeing the execution of repair and upgrade projects. Proficiency in CAD modelling and structural design is essential, as is a strong understanding of API 653 specifications and related industry codes. Key Responsibilities Perform API 653-compliant inspections and assessments of above ground storage tanks Develop engineered repair and upgrade solutions, including structural and piping modifications and retrofits. Produce detailed CAD models and drawings to support repair and design activities. Prepare technical reports, repair scopes, and cost estimates. Ensure all designs and repairs meet regulatory, environmental, and safety standards. Provide technical support during fabrication and construction phases. Oversee fabrication, alteration, and inspection of tank structures as per API and ASME specifications. Maintain accurate documentation and records for compliance and auditing purposes. Uphold high Health, Safety, and Environmental (HSE) standards with a commendable safety attitude. Identify risks and propose appropriate controls when participating in HAZOBs, HAZIDs, and risk assessment workshops. Evaluate the design equivalence between materials and manage various metallurgy concepts. Prioritise project deliverables, interpret schedules, and manage submission timelines effectively. Coordinate design engineering resources to ensure engineering is complete in line with schedule requirements. Link design processes with practical constructability methods. Exhibit familiarity with cranes, lift studies, method statements, and SIMOPS within the Oil & Gas industry. Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to convey engineering concepts clearly to the broader team and stakeholders. About You Minimum of 5 years experience as a mechanical engineer, with experience in tank design, construction, maintenance, and/or inspection within the Oil & Gas industry. Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent qualifications associated with API 653 qualification. Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or equivalent). Strong knowledge of API 650, ASME, and other relevant standards. Experience in engineering calculations for tank integrity, shell repairs, roof replacements, and foundation upgrades. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and an optimization/continuous improvement mindset. Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
