Counsellor Level 4 - New Street - Queanbeyan Employment Type: Permanent Part Time Location: Queanbeyan Position Classification: Counsellor, Social Worker, Psychologist Hours Per Week: 32 Remuneration Counsellor, Social Worker - $61.36 - $62.84 per hour Psychologist - $39.01 - $57.10 per hour Clinical Psychologist - $55.10 - $67.16 per hour Senior Psychologist - $60.12 - $65.15 per hour Applications Close: 2 November 2025 What Youll Be Doing The SNSWLHD New Street Service is a NSW Health child protection initiative and part of a developing network of services delivered by Local Health Districts in NSW. It provides counselling intervention to families of children and young people (1017 years) who have sexually harmed. The program includes a specific focus on improving outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. The Counsellor position will contribute to the delivery of quality, specialist therapeutic services in a forensic service. Visit the Welcome Experience | NSW Government Selection Criteria Minimum 3 years postgraduate experience with a degree in Psychology and current AHPRA registration OR minimum 3 years postgraduate experience with a degree in Social Work or a Bachelor degree in Counselling or related field as per NSW Health Service Health Professionals award with eligibility for registration AASW. Willingness to undertake accreditation with the Harmful Sexual Behaviours Counsellor Accreditation Scheme administered by the NSW Childrens Guardian. Demonstrated experience, knowledge and skills in providing therapeutic treatment to children and young people who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviour and/or have been abused, and an ability to engage and work positively with children and young people who have sexually harmed children. Understanding the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal people and communities and its relationship to Aboriginal Family Violence and demonstrated ability to work effectively with Aboriginal people and communities with willingness to participate in ongoing Aboriginal competency training. Demonstrated clinical ability to work within a traumainformed care and practice framework and other relevant best practice models of care. Demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member within a multidisciplinary environment as well as a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with community partners. Demonstrated excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and a demonstrated ability to use computer programs e.g. Microsoft, computerized data entry and client management systems e.g. Electronic Medical records and an advanced ability to maintain comprehensive and efficient clinical records. Demonstrated high level understanding of legislation, government policies, including NSW Health policies, and legal issues surrounding violence such as family and domestic violence, trauma, sexual and physical abuse of children and the application of these in a health setting. Evidence of a current unrestricted drivers licence and the ability to maintain, as well as the willingness to drive/travel as the role requires. This may involve driving long distances and overnight stays.
