Indie College is a not-for-profit Registered Training Organisation (RTO) that delivers nationally recognised training. It supports young people and adults who may have disengaged from education due to personal or health challenges. Our programs help learners develop Language, Literacy, and Numeracy skills while exploring pathways back into school, employment, or further accredited training. This teaching position will be located at our Indie College site in Wodonga, where the successful applicant will work one-on-one or in small groups to deliver the VCE Vocational Major. This is a non-traditional teaching role, focusing on re-engaging students who have not experienced success in conventional learning environments. The successful candidate will work 1:1 and with small groups to move them through the coursework. Our highly experienced teaching team is supported by a Head of School, Assistant Heads of School, Education Support Assistants, and Welfare Officers. The role may commence ASAP or we will wait for the right person. Our schools are located in areas of socio-economic disadvantage, and we work with students who have found it difficult to engage with mainstream education for a variety of reasons. Our aim is to re-engage students with learning, improve literacy and numeracy skills and focus on the next step in the learning journey for each student: be that a desire to return to mainstream, pursue a TAFE/RTO pathway or to get ready for the workforce. Core Workplace Objectives Preparation and delivery of programs in line with appropriate curriculum. Enhancing effectiveness in the classroom through improved teacher knowledge, practice and professional engagement in order to achieve improved standards of teaching and learning. Ensuring the most effective use of time and resources in the delivery of classes aligned to students individual learning and pathways plans. Promoting the schools alternative educational and strengths based model to ensure student goals and personal outcomes are achieved with the focus on Changing the Lives of Young People. Workplace Tasking & Key Responsibilities Writing curriculum that provides adjustments for students (this requires an understanding of Victoria curriculum; understanding of the Victoria curriculum F-10 will be highly regarded). Planning, writing and delivering structured lessons that differentiate and personalise the learning for each student. Embedding best practice pedagogy into lesson plans to engage students. Working collaboratively in a small team to implement feedback. Embracing opportunities to participate in coaching and mentoring programs. Supporting students with a range of learning needs, including disabilities, behavioural disturbances, Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADD/ADHD, low levels of literacy/numeracy, and mental illness. This includes personalising the learning for individual students pursuant to the levels of adjustment of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (NCCD). Collaborating to write Individual Learning Plans for all students. Embedding the strategies from Individual Learning Plans in lessons to support the needs of the student. Providing timely and specific feedback to students to support learning growth (particularly through formative assessment practices). Assessing and reporting student achievement and progress. Behaviour management (including an understanding of trauma-informed practice or a willingness to gain this knowledge). Building positive relationships with students while maintaining professional boundaries. Supporting students to experience success.
