OverviewProgressing social change that advances the rights and interests of people with developmental disability, so that no one is left behind, takes passion, astute insight, strategic thinking, collaboration and drive. Family Advocacy is seeking such a person to become part of a dynamic team and organisation that supports a strong culture of social justice.RoleThis role forms part of a dynamic team critical to the work of the organisation in defending and progressing the rights and interests of people with developmental disability so that they can enjoy the same opportunities and experiences that most Australians enjoy.What you will be doingAnalysis and advice on structural and systemic barriers inhibiting the experiences of people with developmental disability across Australian society.Developing and coordinating social change campaigns that lead to real change in the lives of people with developmental disability.Supporting and developing the advocacy leadership development of families and their contribution to the social change efforts across the organisation.Working alongside and building alliances and coalitions that support the social change required.Prepare submissions, reports or discussion papers relating to Government policy, practice and legislation or as needed in consultation with the Executive Officer.Essential CriteriaCommitment to the full inclusion of people with developmental disabilityCommitment to the strength of families in advocating for changeExperience in contributing, building and maintaining effective alliancesExperience in developing and coordinating social change campaignsExperience in building relationships and navigating complex political landscapesExperience in research, report and submission writingExcellent communication skills, both written and verbalThe ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlinesAbility to work independently or collaborate as a member of a teamExperience of broad engagement with stakeholder groups from government to community-based organisationCapacity to occasionally work weekends and eveningsLived experience of disability or family memberHigher Education in Law, Social Policy and/or Political Science or similarUnderstanding of Social Role Valorisation theoryBasedHornsby/HybridHours24hr weekCommencementImmediatelySalarySCHADS Award 2010, Level 6.1-6.3, $110,103 $114,983 FTE, pro rata on part time hours plus entitlements and salary packaging.To applyDownload the Position Description, for a more detailed description of the role.Email your complete applications to [email protected] under the subject line: Senior Systemic Advocate-Application.
