Deckhand Responsibilities Work on deck in heavy seas and sometimes in cramped spaces. Ranked positions may include managing fishing operations aboard the vessel in consultation with company owners. You will be away from home for several days or occasionally weeks; normally there is usually a short turnaround before returning to sea. Seafood Processor Position Overview Minimum 2 years experience as a seafood processor with verifiable references. Typical tasks include: unloading fresh seafood from vessels, moving seafood to chillers/freezers/live tanks, sorting/dressing/filleting fish, sorting/cleaning meat from shellfish and crustaceans, loading seafood into trucks, packing boned and filleted seafood into cartons, inspecting and grading, packing fish and freezing, operating slicing/peeling/skin/crumb machines, cleaning and sanitising equipment and work areas, ensuring compliance with workplace safety regulations. Salary and Benefits Ships Master: $120,000.00 or greater, subject to negotiation. Ships Engineer (Fishing): $72,000 to $82,000. Master Fisher: $75,000 to $82,000. Ships Officer: $72,000 to $82,000. Deck and Fishing Hands: $68,800 to in excess of $78,000. Seafood Processors: $68,800 to in excess of $78,000 plus superannuation guarantee.
