Salary: $72,381.40 + Super + Salary PackagingLocation: Bendigo, Victoria | Employment Type: Full-Time | Fixed Term (Strong potential to be ongoing)About VALSThe Victorian Aboriginal Legal Service (VALS) is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) and the states only specialist legal and support service dedicated to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Established in 1973, VALS provides culturally safe legal advice and representation across criminal, family, civil, and human rights law, youth justice, and specialist litigation.About the RoleAs a Legal Secretary based in our Bendigo office, you will provide high-quality secretarial and administrative support to legal staff delivering criminal, family, and civil law services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients.You will work as part of an integrated and supportive legal team that includes junior and senior lawyers, administrative staff, and client service officers.Key ResponsibilitiesAssist with logging client information, including court dates, in internal data systemsProvide legal secretarial and file management support across criminal, family, and civil law mattersPrepare documentation for briefing Counsel and other professionals, including collation and deliveryCommunicate with clients, including arranging appointments and follow-upsManage Victoria Legal Aid grant applications within the ATLAS system, including invoicesMaintain accurate filing of client documents and reportsStay up to date with legal procedures and issues impacting Aboriginal communitiesSupport reception duties, including answering calls and assisting walk-in clientsPerform other administrative tasks as directed within skills and capabilitiesAbout YouDemonstrated experience as a legal secretaryStrong skills in Microsoft Office 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook) and ability to learn internal systems quicklyProfessional communication skills and a courteous phone mannerAbility to work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander clients and communitiesStrong teamwork and collaboration skillsCommitment to social justice and culturally safe practiceWhat We Offer17.5% Leave Loading5 additional days of annual leave on top of the standard 20 daysGenerous salary packaging up to $15,900 via MaxxiaOpportunity to work alongside a passionate, culturally committed teamOngoing professional development and training opportunitiesA supportive, inclusive, and culturally safe workplace environmentHow to ApplyTo apply, please provide:Your current resume, including education, professional experience, and two refereesSubmit your application to [email protected] using the subject line: Application for Legal Secretary BendigoVALS actively encourages and supports Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander people to apply.
