ABOUT US Events Management Queensland (EMQ) is a major event management company wholly owned by the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland. POSITION OVERVIEW The role of the Accountant it to effectively and efficiently perform all finance and accounting functions and tasks for EMQ, ensuring compliance with regulatory and legislative requirements. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Accurately record day-to-day financial transactions, including sales, purchases and general ledger. Load bank payments including international transactions onto the online banking platform. Be the main point of contact for the external Accountants and manage the relationship. Check and approve payroll and assist in preparation as required. Preparation and submission of Statutory Reporting and associated payments. Maintain the Fixed Asset Register and Depreciation Schedules. Preparation of Month-End and Year-End support including journals, reconciliations, reporting, commentary and analysis. Preparation of budgeting & forecasting. Monitor and analyse accounting data and provide recommendations and insights. Be the main point of contact for the auditor, coordinate with other parties as required. Undertake preparations ahead of audit to ensure EMQ is audit ready. Contribute to the development and maintenance of accounting policies and procedures. Proactively seek out methods for minimising financial risk to the organisation. Ensure compliance with accounting principles, company polices and relevant regulations in all aspects of the accounting and finance function. Ensure record keeping and documentation are kept up to date, in good order, and in compliance with ATO and statutory requirements, including archiving of company documents where required. Ensure that complete confidentiality and security is applied to the handling of information and the communication of sensitive issues. Perform any other duties as directed by the Chief Financial Officer and EMQ. KEY SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS Qualifications Bachelor''s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CA/CPA qualified. 5+ years of experience in a full-function accounting role. Computer Skills Intermediate to advanced computer skills in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Excel). Aptitude & Interpersonal Skills Strong ability to understand and work with numbers. Strong problem solving and analytical skills. Strong financial and commercial acumen. An excellent team player who considers organisational goals a priority. High level organisational and coordination skills. Excellent time management, with the capacity to work to deadlines. High degree of discretion and confidentiality. Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation and interpersonal skills. Awareness of and ability to work in accordance with EMQ policies and procedures. Ability to take, interpret and follow instructions. Committed towards undertaking duties efficiently, using initiative, creativity and a strong attention to detail. A willingness to pitch in where required. No job too big or small. Positive, energetic attitude and the ability to work under pressure. Results driven. Professional personal presentation. Strong internal and external stakeholder management with a customer service orientation. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs) Maintenance of a high level of confidentiality at all times. Customer (internal and external) satisfaction. Representation of the EMQ brand in a professional manner. Accounting functions are undertaken in accordance with relevant standards and procedures. Prompt and efficient processing of all finance related transactions, queries and follow up within set time frames. Reconciliation of all payments within a timely manner. Required financial statements and reports are produced by due date set by EMQ. Accuracy of data, filing and information. Satisfactory achievement of ongoing targets, goals and objectives as set by EMQ. Following of instructions and completion of tasks in a timely, accurate and efficient manner which meet the requirements of EMQ, and regulatory standards. Adherence, utilisation and promotion of EMQs vision, philosophy, core values, quality standards, best practice, policies and procedures and WHS requirements.
