Job Description The Warren Region is home to the well-known DEntrecasteaux and Walpole Nornalup national parks as well as the recently created Walpole Wilderness area and Walpole Nornalup Inlets Marine Park. The landscape of the region includes a diversity of coastal heath, tall karri forests to open jarrah and wandoo woodlands to the remnant Tingle forest. The region has wetlands of international and national significance, pristine estuaries and wild rivers. Our key service deliverables are nature conservation, parks and visitor services, sustainable forest management, and fire management. Reporting to the Senior Works Coordinator, this position supervises and leads Conservation Employees and contractors in a range of activities related to the departments works programs including major construction projects predominantly associated with parks and visitor services (PVS) but also undertakes works programs associated with conservation and sustainable forest management and fire management. Ability to supervise and coach others in a range of work programs, identify training needs, conduct training as appropriate, and promote an environment of continuous learning. Ability to plan and implement works programs in an efficient manner, organise resources, determine day to day priorities and ensure best practice quality control measures are achieved. Ability to liaise with and negotiate with other parties to ensure all factors are taken into account before operational works commence. Experience in the construction and maintenance of infrastructure with a preference for someone with a trade qualification relevant to building and construction. Good oral and interpersonal skills, ability to work with departmental employees and contractors with limited supervision and work effectively in a team. Good writing skills including the ability to produce reports and use of computer relevant to the requirements of the job. Certificate III in Conservation and Ecosystem Management or ability and willingness to acquire. Understanding of work, health and safety, and equity and diversity principles and practices. Western Australian C Class Drivers Licenses with a preference for an MR Class Drivers Licence. Physically fit for on ground fire work and able to pass the departmental fire fitness test. Demonstrated ability to undertake roles in incident and fire management activities. Ongoing willingness and ability to participate in fire management activities that contribute to bushfire suppression and prescribed burning operations commensurate with capability, capacity, training and level of experience. Knowledge of the basic principles of fauna, flora and hygiene management, and a sound understanding of the use of poisons, pesticides and herbicides. (Highly Desirable) Senior 1st Aid Certificate.
