In South Africa, we have mining operations in the Northern Cape province, as well as a head office in Centurion, Gauteng, and a port operation in Saldanha Bay, Western Cape.Job DescriptionAs our Specialist Electrical Engineer your responsibilities will include but not limited to:Safety, Health and EnvironmentSelect and allocate resources to ensure that work can be conducted safely.Oversee working elements (inspections, audits, PTOs, etc.) of the Safety Management System and comply as appropriate.Ensure that critical controls in your area are functioning.Implement and maintain compliance with Group and Site safety, health, and environment standards.Ensure prompt investigation of all injuries, illnesses, and incidents.Ensure that subordinates are competent in the safe facilitation of their tasks.Active participation in VFLs, Risk Assessments and close-out of Safety Actions.AuthorityStop unsafe work in any area not just in your area. We are safety leaders.Issue safety-related instructions to any employees or contractors at the workplace.Initiate action, including training, against subordinates and contractors for their role in unsafe behaviour.Performance and DeliveryTechnical Directive:Mitigate safety and production risks by managing them proactively. This will be done through:Implement the Electrical and C&I equipment maintenance strategy to align with the production profile and to prevent breakdowns.Implement the Group Electrical Safety and Integrity Standard.Audits and VFL focus on electrical safety and integrity.Implement and ensure governance of assigned Anglo American Technical Standards.Enhance engineering discipline by providing quality work and feedback to the maintenance management system.Ensure quality control/ assurance during routine test work and contractor management.AuthorityReview progress against the plan and make changes and adjustments accordingly.Assign tasks to subordinates in line with achieving the agreed production plan.Monitor and optimise work schedules.Assign tasks to supervisors to meet required tasks and reporting.Stop or redirect work that is not being executed according to quality standards or is not being solved by the shift supervisor if needed.Electrical & Instrumentation Engineering:Engineering governance to ensure compliance with legislation, SANS and company design, maintenance and implementation standards.Benchmarking on best practices and introduction of new technology to the business.Ensure the implementation of best practices for quality control regarding technical engineering aspects during project execution.Manage and govern all electrical engineering processes safely, efficiently, and cost-effectively to meet short-term and long-term production objectives.Implement and contribute to continuous improvement and asset optimisation initiatives and projects to ensure the implementation of best-practice engineering processes.Manage electrical-related contractors as part of the team to ensure zero worker harm and minimal property damage.Ensure that customer relations are maintained and enhanced to contribute to overall project success.Ensure all contracts are in place to monitor contractor performance and compare to agreed-upon requirements.Effectively uses engineering systems and software and appreciates its benefitsLiaise with stakeholders to provide relevant and specialised technical support and input for operations and projects.Develop and test new growth ideas for viability in preparation for and to be taken through the various project phases to ensure project success.Provide electrical support to project teams to ensure and achieve electrical civil integrity standards.Proactively liaises with external energy suppliers to ensure sufficient energy allocation, e.g. applies for energy resources from energy providersAllocate resources (external providers) to achieve the section plan daily and throughout the year.Demonstrate behaviour in line with health, safety and environmental standards and with Company and Group valuesPeople and TeamsCommunicate effectively with team members to ensure everyone is aligned by providing information, actively listening, and responding to feedback.Establish clear expectations and goals for the team to ensure that everyone is working towards the same objectives and that progress can be measured and tracked over time.When changes to the plan are necessary, handle them in a way that minimises disruption to the team and keeps everyone focused on the end goal.Monitor performance against the plan to ensure progress and promptly address any issues or roadblocks. This includes identifying areas for improvement and acting to make the necessary changes.Set and enforce rules and standards of behaviour and address performance or conduct issues.Training team members to ensure they have the skills and knowledge necessary to perform their roles effectively through on-the-job training, mentoring, or other forms of development.Identify staffing needs and ensure that the right people are in the right roles to support the team''s objectives.Manage the talent pool of employees to ensure that the team has the right mix of skills and experience to achieve its goals. Identify areas where additional skills or experience are needed and take action to recruit or develop employees with those capabilities.AuthorityShare information at appropriate forums.Introduce change following business needs.Prescribe critical tasks and measure performance.Enforce discipline to ensure conditions conducive to work.Develop or ensure the development of role requirements.Select and appoint staff to role requirements.Budget and Cost Control Management:Compile the budget for the area of responsibility and motivate for approval.Ensure compliance with the budget for the area of responsibility.Evaluate and approve cost impacts in the area of responsibility and revise the budget accordingly.Identify, communicate, and execute potential cost-reduction initiatives.AuthorityGenerate authorisation for expenditures.Revise budget after receiving appropriate authorisations.Take necessary action to correct misallocations.This role is in Engineering & Maintenance (ENG) department on a band 6.12 level reporting to the Manager EngineeringQualificationsB-degree in Electrical Engineering (NQF7)4-year degree in Electrical Engineering (NQF8) AdvantageousSA Drivers LicenceProfessional registration with ECSA as a Professional Engineer - AdvantageousTechnical Knowledge6-8 years of relevant mining or heavy industry construction experience.Strong knowledge of electrical engineering principles, protocols, and standards.Strong Knowledge of low-voltage and medium-voltage distribution systems and operating principles.Knowledge of instrumentation and control systems used in mining settings, automation principles and industrial process control.Experienced in implementing safety instrumented systems (SIS) and SIL (Safety Integrity Level) assessments, instrument calibration techniques, and procedures.Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies, industry regulations, and compliance requirements.Knowledge of energy-efficient practices, sustainability initiatives, and environmental considerations in electrical and instrumentation engineering.Understand communication protocols used in industrial networks, such as Modbus, Profibus, and Ethernet/IP, as well as cybersecurity principles and measures related to industrial control systems.Additional InformationWho we are?Anglo American is a global diversified mining business.
