Reporting to the Head of Design & Estimating, youll oversee the day-to-day operations of a high-performing team of Steel Detailers, ensuring projects are delivered with precision, innovation, and technical excellence. This role shapes and standardises steel design systems and documentation nationally, while fostering collaboration and best practice across multiple business units. Youll guide design strategy, resource allocation, and quality assurance, partnering with stakeholders across Design, Estimating, Sales, Manufacturing, and Construction to achieve seamless project outcomes. With a strong focus on leadership and mentorship, youll empower your team to deliver results, drive continuous improvement, and uphold Fleetwoods commitment to safety, compliance, and design innovation.The key responsibilities of the role are to:Lead and oversee the daily functions of a national Steel team, managing resource allocation and reviewing documentation to ensure technical accuracy and project delivery in line with business objectives.Provide team members with guidance and industry experience in developing market segments.Assist with the development of a nationally unified steel design, drafting and documentation system in alignment with applicable industry best practise and standards.Work closely with internal Design and Estimating teams and internal stakeholders across the project lifecycle to ensure the best outcomes for Fleetwood.Establish formalised workflow procedures to ensure a consistent high degree of accuracy.Identify continuous improvement opportunities and escalate issues as required.Liaise with Sales, Manufacturing, Construction and Innovation teams to ensure strategies are implemented as per business objectives.Ensure documentation is of high quality and is compliant with established design standards.Ensure compliance with building codes, lawful regulations, standards and legislation.Assist with the development and review of steel design policies, programs and procedures, rectifying any procedural errors as required.Support in the development, implementation and deployment of new software, systems, technologies and workflows in alignment with Fleetwoods strategic direction.Effectively manage employee performance, including completing cyclical performance reviews.Actively lead the recruitment and retention of appropriately skilled resources.Manage, monitor and mentor team skills, growth and knowledge, identifying technical or training needs.Support and mentor team leaders to manage the daily activities of their teams.Ensure effective communication with clients, internal and external stakeholders.About YouYoure a highly skilled steel and structural design professional with a strong technical foundation and a passion for delivering innovative, high-quality outcomes. With over a decade of experience in the construction environment and several years in leadership, youve successfully managed complex design projects and guided teams to exceed expectations. Youre proficient with steel detailing and modelling software ideally Advance Steel and understand how to turn technical knowledge into practical, buildable solutions. Youre a leader who inspires, mentors teams, and implements systems and workflows that drive efficiency and consistency across projects.
