Job Description

The Animal Shelter Coordinator is responsible for the effective daily management and organisation of all Animal Shelter operations, with a focus on the welfare and safety of animals in the shelter. The Coordinator offers professional services to the community and key stakeholders through animal impounds and reclaims, adoption and rehoming programs, microchipping and vaccination services, and education and engagement with the public regarding companion animals and other animals. Key Responsibilities Coordinate the daily operations and functions of the Animal Shelter including daily cleaning and feeding of the animals Complete accurate impounding, release and associated paperwork and maintain databases Undertake behavior and health assessments of all incoming animals Provide impounded animals with advanced care, including medical, welfare and hygiene concerns Promote responsible pet ownership, adoptions and other Shelter activities via news and social media outlets, websites and verbal communications Contribute to the development and implementation of promotional educational and information programs Develop and maintain volunteer and school education programs Work alongside local vets to provide care for impounded animals, adoptions and community programs. Coordinate casual staff and volunteers Support Rangers with impounding stray animals, investigating dog attacks and other general duties Certificate IV in Animal Behavior and Training, or a Certificate III in Animal Care Services with a minimum 2 years experience in animal handling, and/or equivalent training and experience Class C Drivers Licence Ability to provide behaviour assessments for rehoming, health and safety purposes Diverse knowledge and experience with a variety of animals, not just dogs and cats Previous experience in administration and/or customer service role Authorised Identifier who has successfully completed an approved microchipping training course (desirable) Competent in the use of the NSW Companion Animals Register (desirable) What we offer Permanent full time, 35 hours per week Salary from $68,618 to $80,728 per year (depending on qualifications, skills and experience) plus 12% superannuation Training Courses + Professional Development Flexible work arrangements with access to Indoor Accrued Time (Flexi) 40% discount on yearly Aquatic and Fitness Centre membership for staff and families at local facility (conditions apply) Access to EAP program for employees and their immediate family About Muswellbrook Muswellbrook Shire Council is a progressive local government area, located under two hours from Newcastle and Tamworth and three hours from Sydney, in the beautiful Upper Hunter Valley.
