Job Description

Visitor Experience Manager - Norfolk Island National Park Parks Australia Division | Norfolk Island Work with a dedicated and dynamic team contributing to threatened species conservation in a unique subtropical island setting. Design and deliver creative communication materials to engage a broad range of visitors. Support delivery of the parks first Junior Ranger Program. Lead development of communication, interpretation and educational materials for NINP and NMP. Provide guided tours to general tourists and special interest groups. Prepare media and communication materials, including articles, newsletters and social media posts. Coordinate multiple ongoing and seasonal volunteer groups and initiate new opportunities. Manage commercial tourist operators within NINP and liaise with Norfolk Island Tourism. Design and deliver a range of educational programs utilising NINP and NMP locations and natural resources. Manage contracts, projects (e.g., procurements and grants) and other visitor services activities, monitoring and reporting on progress, outcomes, timeframes and risks. Contribute effectively as a member of a small and dedicated park management team. Who We Are Australias natural and cultural heritage is unique. The Director of National Parks (the Director) is responsible for six national parks, the Australian National Botanic Gardens, 58 Australian Marine Parks and the Heard Island and McDonald Islands Marine Reserve established under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999. Parks Australia is the federal park agency that supports the Director, and they are a division of the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (the Department). We work to showcase these natural and cultural wonders to the world, demonstrating why these places are so special, inspiring communities to become more invested in their care and future. Norfolk Island National Park (NINP) covers 650 ha: 460 ha on Norfolk Island and 190 ha on the nearby Phillip Island. NINP covers approximately 19% of the land mass of Norfolk Island and is home to a diverse range of flora and fauna. Norfolk Marine Park (NMP), surrounding Norfolk Island, supports diverse temperate and tropical marine life. Together, NINP and NMP are major tourist destinations for the island, and an important community resource both economically and culturally. Compensation and Benefits APS 5 $84,794 $93,020 per annum plus superannuation. What We Are Looking For Experience providing visitor services in a natural environment, e.g., delivering guided tours. Experience developing communication, interpretation materials, including articles, social media or other visitor information. Experience preparing and presenting educational materials to school groups, tourists and special interest groups. Ability to tailor scientific and technical information for a general audience, and to consider cultural sensitivities when preparing communication materials. Ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders, including volunteer groups. Ability to prioritise and manage workloads under competing priorities. Demonstrated ability to live and work in a small, multicultural and isolated community. Desirable Qualifications Knowledge of the flora and fauna of Norfolk Island and the surrounding marine environment. Eligibility Citizenship you must be an Australian citizen.
