Senior Solicitor, Litigation and External Review Salary: $113,022 - $124,884 (Plus superannuation) Fixed Term position up to 12 months Usual hours of work: Full time (flexibility may be available) Usual work location: 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne VIC 3000 (flexibility may be available) The Role As a Senior Solicitor, Litigation and External Review, you will undertake a wide variety of work across the Public and Administrative Law Unit at an advanced level, including advising on and developing legislation, regulations and instruments, delivering advice on public law and administrative matters and managing and advising on disputes, litigation and external review matters. You will also undertake high level research and analysis of complex legal, legislative and policy issues, and will prepare reports, briefs and correspondence on those issues at an advanced level. The role also involves advising on administrative law and public law matters for a diverse client group including regional staff, policy officers and administrative decision makers. Key accountabilities include Provide legal advice and undertake research and analysis on complex and sensitive legal issues and proposals. Convey advanced legal concepts and advice to peers and stakeholders. Apply advanced theoretical and practical legal expertise in the development of complex advice. Manage a range of legal matters and projects under limited direction. Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with internal and external stakeholders. The Team The position of Senior Solicitor, Litigation and External Review will work within Legal and Legislation Branch, which sits within Corporate Services Group. The Legal and Legislation Branch is the centralised provider of legal services to the Department. It supports the Department''s strategic priorities by partnering with our client areas and delivering quality legal advice, dispute management, legislation development and commercial legal services. We provide practical and solutions focused legal services that appropriately manage risk, so that we assist our clients to achieve their strategic outcomes. We do this by engaging with our client areas and fostering strong relationships so that we better understand our clients'' context and needs as well as the strategic objectives of the Department. We provide legal advice on statutory decision making, Commonwealth-State constitutional issues, statutory interpretation, administrative law, negotiation and drafting of commercial and other agreements, review of contracting and grant arrangements, advice on dispute resolution and management of litigation. We also manage FOI functions for the department and its Ministers and provide advice on privacy and the management of personal information. About You To be successful in this role you will have the following skills and experience: Advanced knowledge and understanding of public law principles or litigation, including legislative processes, interpretation of primary and subordinate legislation, constitutional and administrative law. Research, conceptual and analytical skills and proven ability to provide advice on complex and sensitive legal, legislative and policy matters. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain professional and collaborative working relationships across the Department. Demonstrated ability to work constructively and effectively with minimal supervision and in a team environment, and to plan and prioritise tasks and manage strict timelines.
