Job Description

Role Overview The Leading Hand works under remote supervision and is responsible for providing high level support to the Supervisor through the coordination and supervision of daily activities of work crews whilst performing construction and maintenance tasks. Responsibilities Demonstrated ability to perform work at trade or equivalent level under remote supervision. Operate and maintain plant and equipment consistent with competencies held. Perform physical labouring tasks. Effectively motivate and coordinate a team to complete daily jobs within a work environment of moderate complexity (BSBWOR502). Manage time, set priorities and plan works in an environment of changing priorities and competing demands (BSBWOR404). Maintain sound numeracy, written and verbal communication skills. Apply comprehensive knowledge of workplace health and safety considerations relevant to the area and proven ability to limit risks (BSBWHS401/RIIRIS301D). Ensure all work is performed to meet legislative requirements and responsibilities of Council. Assist the Supervisor in achieving quality, safety and environmental outcomes for civil construction and maintenance activities. Implement and monitor policies, procedures and programs to meet legislative requirements and ensure safety of all employees, contractors and members of the public. Complete risk assessments and follow established work procedures. Lead the daily work of the crew while establishing and maintaining an environment which encourages teamwork; guide and assist trainees. Perform general labouring and operate plant for which the holder is licensed. Maintain plant, tools and equipment in good order and according to operators manuals, councils procedures and best practice. Interpret plans, instructions and specifications accurately. Use judgement and experience to solve problems on the job. Implement traffic control schemes when required. Champion technology improvements to support a mobile workforce; contribute to the development of procedures in relation to area of work. Work autonomously, cohesively and collaboratively with other council teams. Qualifications Queensland C Class drivers licence that is current and maintained. Construction Industry (White/Blue card). BSBWOR502 and BSBWOR404 competencies. BSBWHS401 / RIIRIS301D proficiency. Experience with civil road construction and maintenance (earthworks, pavements, drainage, stormwater and concreting). Proficiency in operating plant and manually operated equipment. Ability to manage safety, quality and environmental outcomes. Strong communication and teamwork skills.
