About the Role New Street Northern is currently seeking an (identified) Aboriginal Counsellor to join our clinical team. New Street is a coordinated, communitybased, specialist treatment service for 1017 year olds who have engaged in harmful sexual behaviours towards others. The role has joint components of providing clinical interventions as a counsellor within the clinical team and supporting the New Street community engagement process. Training and clinical support are provided within the New Street service, to develop the specialist counselling skills required to address harmful sexual behaviour. Community engagement and development is a wholeofservice responsibility carried by all New Street services counsellors. All staff and counsellors are accountable for their participation and commitment to community engagement and development activities with Aboriginal young people, their family/caregivers and communities. Engagement with local Aboriginal communities is a core part of New Streets work and is essential in achieving positive outcomes for the young people and families who come to New Street for support. Community engagement can be seen as creating a foundation of safety before counselling begins (New Street Aboriginal counsellor).
