Suncoast Christian College is a wellestablished preprep to Year 12 coeducational college of over 1000 students, situated on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. The College is excited to announce that we have a rare and exciting opportunity available for Head of HPE (1.0FTE), commencing January 2026.The Head of Department (HPE) provides leadership, coordination and vision for the HPE department, ensuring highquality teaching, innovative learning and strong student outcomes. The role encompasses curriculum development, staff support, resource management and fostering a culture of respect, participation and inclusion.The Head of Department (HPE) also works closely with the Director of Studies and Director of Teaching & Learning to develop, construct, implement and qualityassure effective planning, documentation, teaching, learning and assessment across Years712 in line with the Australian Curriculum V9 and QCAA Syllabus requirements.Duties and responsibilities:Provide instructional leadership, performance feedback, mentoring and professional development for staff.Build a collaborative and innovative team culture aligned with the College''s vision and strategic plan.Manage departmental budget, resources and facilities, ensuring safe and effective learning environments.Work closely with and support beginning teachers to develop their classroom practices as they transition towards full QCT registration.Ensure that proper longterm and shortterm planning for teaching has been completed across the department, by checking and ensuring that Year Level and Unit planning documents have been completed, are in line with College expectations and are of high quality, capturing both planned content and pedagogy.Engage with relevant QCAA processes like Endorsement & Confirmation pertaining to Senior Subjects, ensuring that deadlines are met and any advice is followed up and implemented.Oversee the assessment process across HPE, including quality control of task sheet formation, scaffolding documents, appropriate draft & due dates, revision sheets, constructive feedback on drafts and timely release of assessment results & feedback for improvement.Keep abreast of curriculum developments and subject area expertise to provide advice to supervisors in relation to ongoing curriculum revision.Conduct regular department meetings to discuss operational and curriculum matters, including assessment procedures, homework policy, monitoring of student work etc. and to initiate forward planning.Promote teamwork within the department and build a positive collaborative team culture.Oversee the implementation of curriculum and assessment, and carry out administrative duties pertaining to a specific subject area and ensuring teachers are aware of PD opportunities, QCAA briefs and resources.Promote curiosity, innovation and problemsolving in HPE, helping students develop resilience and confidence.Skills and experience required:Registration as a teacher with the Queensland College of Teachers.Demonstrated experience as an innovative HPE teacher.Proven leadership and management experience.Strong curriculum knowledge.Demonstrated interest and involvement in a wide range of sports and physical activities, with the ability to promote participation and excellence across all levels.The Head of Department should model an active and healthy lifestyle, serving as a positive role model for students in the areas of health, fitness and wellbeing.A commitment to the vision and Christian values of the College - participation in the staff devotions roster is required in this role.Strong interpersonal, communication and problemsolving skills.Should you be interested in finding out more, please reach out to our HR Manager, Shelley Elliott [email protected] to apply: Please apply via our website or SEEK and complete the short screening questionnaire as part of your application.
