About the Opportunity An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated and enthusiastic person to join the Infrastructure & Operations Workshop team at Cowra Council, as a Apprentice Heavy Vehicle Mechanic. Applicants must have an interest in mechanics with a desire to successfully complete a four year apprenticeship and gain a Certificate III in Heavy Commercial Vehicle Mechanical Technology. The successful applicant will learn a range of skills associated with the repair and maintenance activities of Councils plant and equipment including but not limited to; Diagnose and repair heavy vehicle engines Test and repair electrical circuits Service and repair fluid power systems Carry out MIG, TIG, stick and oxyacetylene welding, thermal heating and plasma arc cutting Diagnose, service and repair small motors and light vehicle engines Diagnose, service and repair of Battery Electric Vehicle, Plugin Hybrid Electric Vehicles & Hybrid Electric Vehicles To be successful in this role applicants will have; School certificate (Completion of Year 10 onwards) or equivalent. Basic understanding of automotive systems and components. Strong mechanical aptitude and a passion for working with heavy vehicles. Excellent attention to detail and problemsolving skills. Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment. The formal training for this apprenticeship is through one week block release in Dubbo over the first, second and third year of the apprenticeship. The oneweek training sessions are for approximately six weeks each year. The successful applicant must be able to travel to Dubbo for the week blocks (accommodation will be provided) along with a willingness to undertake and complete TAFE study outside of the block training as required.
