We are seeking to establish a pool of Design and Technology Assistants for permanent and fixed-term, full-time and part-time vacancies which may arise during the 2026 school year. Appointments may be offered at any time for vacancies that commence during this period. The school caters for a diverse clientele, many of whom travel great distances to engage in its Approved Specialist Programs, Centre of Resources Excellence Program (CoRE), or to reside at the Rotary Residential College located onsite. We also collaborate with the Curtin Education Community to actively engage local primary schools in the Victoria Park area, with the ultimate aim that Kent Street SHS is their recognised and respected secondary school of choice. The Role The Design and Technology Assistant (D&T Assistant) prepares the classroom and workshop to enable the teacher to instruct students effectively. The D&T Assistant prepares specialised equipment and materials, provides operational advice for D&T workshops, classes and demonstrations, and ensures safe use, storage and disposal of equipment, chemicals and wastes in accordance with occupational health and safety requirements. The role also involves maintaining documentation for equipment, machinery and materials, designing and constructing teaching aids, evaluating and assessing technical equipment, carrying out repairs and maintenance, and arranging offsite repairs. The D&T Assistant assists with ordering supplies and equipment, and monitors expenditure. Eligibility Be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or hold a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment. Obtain a valid Working With Children Check before you start. Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Educations Screening Unit before you start. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and experience in operating technical/industrial equipment within a design and technology workshop/class or similar environment. Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the Western Australian Occupational Safety and Health Act 1984 and its coverage in industrial environments. Demonstrated knowledge of Design and Technology subjects relevant to secondary schools. Demonstrated good written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to deal effectively with individuals at all levels.
